The very special Coudray-Bizot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes 2015 and 2014

The very special Coudray-Bizot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes 2015 and 2014

Direct from the domaine's cellars
Domaine Coudray-Bizot make just one white – Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes. The vineyard lies on the Meursault border with Puligny Perrieres to the south and Meursault Perrieres and Charmes to the north. It is a nice piece of real estate.
Coudray-Bizot’s parcel is 75% very old vines (80+ years of age), the younger 25% were planted in the 1990’s so they too are no longer young.
As I am sure you know by now this domaine holds back their wines for several years to ensure they are drinking well upon release. The latest vintage available is 2015!
Our first shipment from the domaine arrived just before Christmas and at our our Coudray-Bizot Dinner earlier this month we sold out of the Puligny Combettes 2014 - it was stunning.
We have more reserved more 2014 as well as the latest release - the 2015 - which will be shipped very soon.
If you love great white Burgundy with a little age these will impress you no end.

Appealing yellow-gold. Intense, ripe nose marrying flowers and toast tones bordering on pastry. The palate is extremely racy. It is intense yet silky and compelling. The finish reveals toasted almond and sweet spice notes. 94 Points

Attractive bright yellow with green tints. Refined, open nose revealing fine floral, lemony and menthol notes with a mineral dimension asserting itself after airing. Beautiful ample, mouth-filling yet ethereal palate framed by consistent freshness. 93 Points

11 February 2021: From very old vines. Bright green-yellow. Fresh, cool nose of citrus, buttered popcorn and honeycomb with a little white peppery spice behind. The wine has moved from the “new” phase to something starting to develop serious complexity: it has wonderful mouthfeel, neither full nor light, it is poised beautifully in between with depth and great freshness. What 7 year old white Burgundy should be!

75% of the vines are more than 80 years old, the rest were replanted in the 1990s. Right on the border with Meursault. Bright gold. Silky/satiny texture and very 'cool' and savoury. If anything this tastes a little more evolved than I would have expected - no bad thing. Creamy textured and bone dry on the end. Very neat, even if far from opulent. Very satisfying, 16.5/20

Castagnier with bottle
A Small Jerome Castagnier 2017 Dinner at Scopri. Tonight, Thursday 18 February
Drink some incredible Grand Crus
2 seats available

Our 2017’s from Jerome Castagnier arrived late last year. After a couple of months in the warehouse it is time to take a look at a few and see what this “Young Winemaker of the Year” has done in 2017.
I have selected 7 wines (4 of them Grand Crus) to taste at this dinner for just 6 people including myself. The retail value of the wine is $2254.00. We'll subsidize it to $249.00 per person.
Jerome, as a general rule, does not offer all of his wines for tasting as some are produced in tiny quantities (those wines are in red below). I would like to look at a number of these along with some regular favourites like the Clos de la Roche.
