Since 2009, when Thibaut Marion of Seguin-Manuel won the prestigious Young Talents Trophy in Burgundy, the wines at this estate have rocketed skywards.
2009 was also the year that the vineyards became organic and Thibaut considers this a big factor in his success.
They have bottled their 2018 reds and what a lineup! The critics have heaped praise on the wines. Neal Martin of the Wine Advocate says "A name to watch out. If you are looking for affordable, well crafted Burgundy, then look no further than here"
Today we feature the range from Bourgogne to Grand Cru. There are terrific wines at all levels.
Seguin-Manuel's four Grand Crus from the Cote de Nuits all receive 97 or 98 Points from Sarah Marsh MW and glowing reviews from Bill Nanson's The Burgundy Report. Nanson does not use points so you'll have to read his comments.
In Sarah Marsh's interview for the 2018's Thibault states “Reds - I believe it is an exceptional vintage. It has fruit, depth, tannins, balance and good acidity too. My wine making goes back to 2004 and I would say 2016 but with more depth (where no frost). More depth than 2009s. Between 2015 and 2016 but above both of these.”
“The 2009 were so appealing out of the cask, as are the 2018s but with depth the 2009 did not have. But that might just be our vineyards as we changed to become organic in 2009 and the vines are improving all the time. Maybe a blend of 2005 and 2016.”
Any Burgundy that compares with 2005 or 2016 is a must for the serious cellar!
The quantity produced of these wines is very small (only one barrel in some cases) so we only have small quantities to sell.
All wines are offered at a 25% Pre Arrival Discount. Offer ends midday Friday 5 February 2021. These are superlative wines! To see the complete range including some gorgeous whites click here.
Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2018
Landed Price $57.50
Pre Arrival Price $42.95
Case of 12 Bottles $483.00
Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report: Cote de Beaune with a tiny proportion of Hautes Cotes.
A compact nose, but one with a certain freshness to the ripe red fruit. A grain but also a nice flavour accented with a lick of tannin. A touch of finishing salinity. Yum!
Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes 2018
Landed Price $138.50
Pre Arrival Price $103.95
Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing: Silky texture, aromatic. lovely balance, delicate freshness. A very pretty, nicely rounded and harmonious Beaune.  93 Points
HHC Wine: Just 3 barrels were made (of which one is new). It takes plenty of sunshine, as in 2018, to bring grapes from this vineyard to perfect ripeness, as the vines lie high up on Beaune’s 1st Growth slope. Colour is impressive, deep purple, nose shows ample ripe fruitiness. Palate is full-bodied and dense, showing great potential for ageing, with fine intensity and serious length of flavour (for drinking 2022-2032+).
Pommard Petit Noizons 2018
Landed Price $145.95
Pre Arrival Price $109.50
HHC Wine: One of the stand-out bottles of the vintage here, this comes fom a south-facing vineyard uphill from 1st Growths Les Arvelets and Les Charmots. The fruit was so healthy that 30% whole bunches were added, bringing complex spiciness. The wine has been ageing in small barrels of which 20% were new. Colour is deep, ruby-purple, aromas are open, recalling red fruits. Palate shows impressive structure, with dense fruit concentration, well-rounded tannins and splendid length (for drinking 2022-2032+).
Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2018
Landed Price $157.95
Pre Arrival Price $118.50
Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing: Brochon side. Forrest fruits; so juicy. Sweet tannins with a touch of grip. Freshness and body. Elegant and strong. Sweet and cool. 2023-30. 92 Points
Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report: A deep, possibly reductive width, tighter in the higher notes. Supple, a more overt concentration with a little depth to this texture. More finishing bitters but also much, much complexity too - thats potentially a great finish for a villages. Excellent wine!
Vosne-Romanee Aux Communes 2018
Landed Price $176.95
Pre Arrival Price $132.50
Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing: Sweet and generous, juicy and full. Rich and ripe tannins. Rather sumptuous. Good typicte. 2023-28. 91 Points
HHC Wine: This is the sixth vintage that Thibaut Marion has owned Vosne-Romanée vines – a rare and precious addition to his cellar. The wine was 100% de-stemmed, and has been ageing in 25% new oak barrels. Colour is pale, ruby-purple, with sweet-smelling Pinot aromas of real charm. Palate is full-bodied, with impressive fruit density, silky texture and freshly balanced length (for drinking 2022-2028+).
Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cazetiers 2018
Landed Price $272.95
Pre Arrival Price $204.50
Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing: Very late MLF just over so quite retarded and can't really score it. Lots of structure and energy. Tension on the long and rather mineral finish. looks promising. 2024-32.
95 Points
Neal Martin, Vinous: Matured in one-year-old barrels and one of the last to finish its malolactic, the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has a satisfying, floral bouquet, wilted rose petals infusing the red cherry and wild strawberry fruit and hints of sous-bois emerging with time. The medium-bodied palate delivers supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Very harmonious, with fine depth toward the finish. Excellent. 91-93 Points
Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Charmes 2018
Landed Price $319.95
Pre Arrival Price $239.95
HHC Wine: Just two barrels were made of this 100% de-stemmed wine, one of which was new. As often with Chambolle-Musigny, the wine’s purple-ruby colour is not very deep, but it catches the light beautifully. Aromas are fine, open and fresh. Palate shows lovely balance between fruit density, medium structure and silky texture - with invigorating, smooth aftertaste (for drinking 2022-2030+).
Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report: Hmm, that's a big textured nose, but also a very attractive one. Round, beautifully textured, almost a caramel coffee depth. Thats so good. Excellent wine.
Corton Rognet Grand Cru 2018
Landed Price $412.95
Pre Arrival Price $309.95
Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing: Rich, powerful and generous and opulent. 2024-38. 95 Points
HHC Wine: In a great year like 2018, Burgundy-lovers will relish its true, Grand Cru grandeur. The grapes were 100% de-stemmed. The wine is ageing in 50% new barrels of tight-grained new oak, whose staves had been weathered in the open air for 3 years. Having done many trials with different types of oak from different coopers, Thibaut believes this is the best way of achieving perfect integration of oak in the final wine. Impressively deep, ruby-purple in colour, this has intricate aromas including black fruits, smokiness and spice. Palate shows good body, with ample fruit density, balance, and invigorating length (for drinking 2023-2035+).
Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report: A more intense core of ripe but high-toned fruit. Also an oak here, but melting, fresh flavour too. A perfumed long finish. Thats good again!
Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2018
Landed Price $555.00
Pre Arrival Price $417.00
Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing: This is a c.1895 planting. Big, rich, dense, powerful wine. It's muscular. Classic Vougeot. 2026-38. 97 Points
Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report: A spiced oak on the nose. Depth of concentrated flavour here, but no worries about freshness. Wide and impressive but I probably wouldn't guess CV as today I don't see the architecture here. But it's a compellingly delicious wine.
Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2018
Landed Price $555.00
Pre Arrival Price $417.00
Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing: Volume and rich, but still quite airy. Svelte tannins. Great typicite. Aromatic persistant finish. 2024-2038. 98 Points
HHC Wine: Here is another Grand Cru we are offering for the 3rd year running. It has been ageing in a new oak barrel, of the same origin as the previous two wines. Solid ruby-purple in colour, this has plentiful, abundantly fresh aromas. Palate shows concentrated, exhilarating fruitiness, with supple tannins and a fresh, sweet finish with lovely length (for drinking 2022-2032+).
Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report: Hmmm - just a little more compact but this has a finely textured and inviting width to its nose. That's super in the mouth - absolutely gorgeous texture. This is absolutely great, a super-expressive wine!
Echezeaux Grand Cru 2018
Landed Price $580.00
Pre Arrival Price $435.50
Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing: En Orveaux, this finish. Sweet and pure and straight. Lovely line, elegance and a refined finish. 2025-2038. 97 Points
Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report: Higher toned and a little more floral - actually becoming rather intense. Hmm, I like this, it's melting with super flavour. Fume from the barrel, but complex, super wine...
Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru 2018
Landed Price $799.95
Pre Arrival Price $599.95
Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing: A level up. This has the structure and intensity and presence. Super succulent. Very scented finish. 2025-2038. 98 Points
Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report: Higher toned - a more vertical nose. This is more open and openly complex, great finishing too, but by comparison a little more serious/austere after the Charmes.
