Located just across the border from Puligny-Montrachet lies the St-Aubin Premier Cru vineyard of Murgers des Dents de Chien. The name comes from the piles of stone creates when a vigneron clears the land for planting "Murgers" and "Dent de Chien" - dog's tooth. Working this vineyard, with its sharp stones, is particularly difficult.
The wines from this site have much in common with their more illustrious neighbours across the border. They are mineral and intense with fine acidity and great length - very Puligny-Montrachet in style. It is one of those little gems that Burgundy lovers know and keep to themselves.
Domaine Jean Chartron is one of a small number of producers who own Murgers des Dents de Chien. His parcel is brilliantly located immediately above Chevalier-Montrachet.
The 2011 has just been announced. Those of you who purchased the 2010 will know what an outstanding wine this is for the money. The 2011 has scored higher than the great 2010!

John Gilman, A View from the Cellar: As I noted last year, Domaine Chartron's parcel in this Murgers des Dents de Chien lies right alongside that of Domaine Hubert Lamy's, in the section of the vineyard immediately above Chevalier-Montrachet and this wine is absolutely superb in 2011. The very classy bouquet offers up a complex mélange of pear, white peach, a touch of tangerine, chalky soil tones, apple blossoms and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and absolutely rock solid at the core, with crisp acids, outstanding focus and a very long, complex and nicely structured finish. This is a dynamite wine in 2011! 2014-2030. 92 Points
