Domaine Christian Clerget is a small operation of just 7 hectares. They have a nice selection of vineyards which they painstakingly tend.
At the top of their portfolio is a 1.1 hectare parcel of Echezeaux in the climat of Les Orveaux that was planted in 1947.
Burghound considers this climate could possibly be underrated as a source of Echezeaux. "...En Ourveaux is inclined towards finer tannins. Growers attribute this to the fact that the grapes ripen later and more slowly..." "I quite like the wines from this climat, in particular those of the old Engel estate (now farmed by Domaine Eugenie), Domaines Faiveley, Christian Clerget, Haegelen-Jayer and Maison Joseph Drouhin".
Christian uses around 25% stems which add to the aromatic complexity of the wine.
Until midnight 7 January 2013 we offer this lovely Grand Cru at a Premier Cru Price.
Christian Clerget Echezeaux Grand Cru 2009
New Years Special $129.50 (Save $55.50)
Burghound: Here the floral character is even more evident with a strikingly fresh and bright nose of red currant and blue berry fruit aromas that are amply cut with a variety of spice notes. The moderately broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent precision on the quite firm and dusty finish that displays outstanding length and focus. This is also worth considering. 90-93 Points. Drink: 2019+
