Great reviews....

Les Malconsorts is an exceptional 1er Cru. Being located alongside La Tache and less than 400 metres from Romanee-Conti it comes as no surprise. Domaine du Clos Frantin owns a substantial 1.76 ha parcel with a vine age of around 40 years. Jasper Morris MW says "Aux Malconsorts was first taken out of scrubland and planted with vines in 1610, relatively late for this part of the Cote. Nonetheless it is an exceptional vineyard, one of my three favourite premier crus along with Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses and Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St-Jacques."

It is one of our best selling wines every year.

James Suckling Tasting Report: A fragrant and complex Vosne-Romanée with deep black-cherry and floral notes on the nose. Then comes the rich and very elegant palate, the tannins almost completely masked by the fruit, until you reach the very powerful yet polished finish. 94 Points
Jasper Morris MW: Dense purple colour, the nose is much stricter than the Amoureuses but just as tense. If anything there is greater concentration here but the wine is shaped differently, with a firmer stricter structure at the back, through the fruit flows over the tannins. There is just enough acidity. 93 Points

The World of Fine Wine: A perfumed nose, floral and charming. Fresh limpid, and elegant on the palate, with fine-grained tannins and good underlying tannins. It's not that demonstrative but it's finely balanced and long. 93 Points

Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report: 1.75 ha from 6 sandier parts and lower down heavier soil - the bottom left which is more sandy and the rest which is more clay - there can be 3 days difference in maturity between these two sectors - 'clearly different wines too, the lower part more massive less complex.' The only area in 2017 where they did a green harvest.
Hmm - not a big nose today, but one with a lot of inviting, faintly spiced complexity - true to its roots. Fuller, more depth, more complexity - certainly more structural vs the Amoureuses, but also much more complex - accessibly complex - today. Super finishing depth of flavour. Ooh that's good! - Excellent wine.

Fopugeray Beauclair Bonnes-Mares Label

Domaine Fougeray de Beauclair Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2016
8 bottles left

Today we feature Domaine Fougeray de Beauclair's unique Bonnes-Mares. They are the only makers to bottle a Bonnes-Mares purely from the Morey-St-Denis side.

Of the 15.06 hectares of the Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares only 1.53 hectares lie in Morey-St-Denis. Interestingly there used to be a little more on the Morey side but as it was inside the walls of Clos de Tart, and belonged to the same owner, it was reclassified as Clos de Tart in 1965.

This is not just an unique wine but also of super quality. A little patience in the cellar will be amply rewarded.
Darren Harris: There is only one maker of Bonnes-Mares from the Morey side and that is Domaine Fougeray de Beauclair. They farm 1.20 hectares of the old Clair-Dau vineyard and bottle the wine without any Chambolle fruit. (The other 0.32 hectares is blended with Chambolle Grapes in Bruno Clair's Bonnes-Mares). Needless to say that makes for an interesting and rare wine that few serious drinkers have had the pleasure to taste.
Very aromatic nose - red and black fruits, crushed minerals, violets, spices and a hint of earth. This has excellent volume with serious concentration and silky sweet 2016 fruit. The wine is powerful but not heavy - the tannins well coated and refined. More elegant than most Bonnes-Mares yet still with the drive and richness one expects from this Grand Cru. One for the cellar.

As a side note I see the Clos de Tart 2016 being offered at $1150.00-$1200.00 a bottle in Australia.
The perfect options wine!
