Last year I visited Domaine Christophe Vaudoisey for the first time. I had tasted their 2015's and imported a small amount so was delighted to taste through the full range of 2016's. I was seriously impressed - the wines were pure and fresh displaying all the character of the 2016.
The wines 2016's have come and gone and now it is time to move on to the new 2017 vintage.
The Vaudoisey family came to Volnay in 1804. In recent years it is Christophe, the eighth generation, who has taken the domaine to new levels. He took over the domaine from his father in 1985, built a new winery in 2008, and from then on the wines have received many accolades from Guide Hachette and other French publications.
In recent years I have seen the quality of Volnay escalate. With prices in the Cote de Nuits always rising Volnay presents a destination for delightful, aromatic wines at joyous prices.
At the top of the tree is Domaine Christophe Vaudoisey who produce a lovely range of wines at yesterday's prices. Their style is all about terroir and as those who grabbed some of the 2016's will know the wines are pure, refined and delightfully aromatic. Just gorgeous expressions of Pinot Noir.
For the next week I'm offering the new 2017's at a 25% Pre Arrival Discount. That makes their Premier Cru Volnay and Pommard a mere $87.95 a bottle. Their old vines Monthelie, another commune increasingly on the radar, is only $52.50.
The wines here have pristine fruit with juice and and refinement. For the price they are incredible drinking. This is what Volnay should always taste like!
Premier Crus are rarely this affordable. Pop a mixed case in the cellar and drink over the next decade.
