"Barbaresco's Stellar 2011s: The 2011 Barbarescos have turned out beautifully. Racy and pliant, the best 2011s are gorgeous and will drink well early." Antonio, Vinous
Today we are delighted to offer 6 different 2011 Barbaresco Riservas from Produttori del Barabaresco.
2011 is regarded as a great Barbaresco vintage producing wines with that elusive combination of intensity and balance. James Suckling says "2011 is another beautiful vintage for Barbaresco". The Wine Spectator calls the wines "Text-book".
These wines have now been in bottle for a few years and the flavours and characters have developed beautifully. After all, Nebbiolo does require some ageing for the evolution of aromas and integration of tannins.
We are pleased to offer these wines at just $135.00 a bottle - less than the current release and cheaper than most Premier Cru Burgundies. Just like Burgundy each Cru speaks of its terroir.
Mix and match as you please. Why not make up a 6-Pack with one of each? Wines are available now.
Barbaresco Riserva Muncagota 2011
Normally $159.00
Special $135.00
Wine Spectator:
This is all about finesse, elegance and silky texture. Cherry, eucalyptus, licorice and spice flavors permeate the vibrant frame. The balance suggests you could enjoy this now, but there is a firm underlying structure. The terrific finish echoes the fruit and ups the ante with a chalky, minerally vein. Best from 2018 through 2032.
Wine Advocate: The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Muncagota is reflective of the warm vintage. This is a solid and slightly rigid expression that shows hints of cherry marmalade, rum cake and prune. Those heavy aromas lift to reveal a wine with dark red cherry and mild spice at its core. Subtle background tones of balsam herb and rosemary oil add extra dimension. In the mouth, the wine delivers a point of sharpness or tartness. Overall, this wine is not as open as the others in this beautiful series of Riserva wines. It's always a special year when the venerated Produttori del Barbaresco releases its set of Riserva Barbaresco wines from the best vineyard sites under their management. 92 Points
Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano 2011
Normally $159.00
Special $135.00
Antonio Galloni, Vinous:
The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is one of the least expressive of these wines. Inward, powerful and explosive, the 2011 is not in a mood to show much today, that is pretty clear. Still, there is an obvious energy here that is impossible to miss. A firm spine of tannin gives the wine much of its signature power. Dark red cherry, smoke, pomegranate and scorched earth blossom on the dramatic finish. A wine of real density and gravitas, the 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano stands out for its pure, unbridled energy and overall intensity. 94 Points
Wine Advocate:
The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is the biggest of the bunch. This wine delivers a lasting sense of structure and intensity that is especially apparent as this Barbaresco hits the palate. The bouquet exhibits signs of ripe fruit with soft layers of blackberry preserves and cherry liqueur. The wine's tannic structure is solid and firmly stitched together, yet this wine is slightly softer and perhaps sweeter than the Riserva Muncagota, for example. This is yet another wine destined for long bottle-aging. It's always a special year when the venerated Produttori del Barbaresco releases its set of Riserva Barbaresco wines from the best vineyard sites under their management. The 2011 vintage offers one of those unique opportunities to taste Nebbiolo from Asili, Montefico, Montestefano, Muncagota, Ovello, Rabajà and Rio Sordo. The Riservas were produced in 2009, but Produttori del Barbaresco opted not to make them in 2010. It was determined that 2010 did not have enough consistency for long aging and this decision was controversial, as you can image, given the general applause bestowed on that vintage. Thankfully, we get to enjoy 2011. 94 Points
Barbaresco Riserva Pora 2011
Normally $159.00
Special $135.00
Wine Spectator: Broad and brooding, this muscular Barbaresco packs an oversize frame with black cherry, tar, licorice and spice flavors. More about power than finesse, with an extremely long finish. Best from 2019 through 2035.
95 Points
Antonio Galloni, Vinous: The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is sweet, round and sensual. Beautifully layered in the glass, the Pora is absolutely exquisite, with plenty of sweet red cherry, plum, mint and spice notes woven throughout. The Pora is typically the most open of the Produttori's nine Riservas, as it is once again this year. There is so much to like here.
Barbaresco Riserva Montefico 2011
Normally $159.00
Special $135.00
 Antonio Galloni, Vinous:
The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico is another of the highlights in this range from the Produttori. Imagine the precision of Ovello, but with slightly darker fruit and more density and power through the middle. That's the Montefico. A regal, towering Barbaresco, the Montefico should provide thrilling drinking for the next several decades. A rush of dark cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and tobacco add nuance on the powerful, structured finish.
95 Points
Wine Spectator: Aromatic, offering cherry, strawberry and tar notes, picking up a licorice flavor on the palate. Round and supple, this has fine grip and a long, savory finish. Drink now through 2028. 94 Points
Barbaresco Riserva Ovello 2011
Normally $159.00
Special $135.00
Antonio Galloni, Vinous: The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello, from one of the coolest zones in Barbaresco, is superb. Here it is the wine's precision and energy - both hard to come by in 2011 - that really stand out. Pine, mint, chalk, bright red berries, blood orange and white pepper are some of the signatures in a brilliant, finely-cut Barbaresco that captures the best of both the vintage and this site. Don't miss it!
94+ Points
Wine Spectator: A peppery, spicy style, this displays cherry, eucalyptus, tar and black pepper aromas and flavors. Firmly tannic, yet with a core of concentrated sweet fruit, tobacco and tea accents on the lingering finish. Best from 2019 through 2033. 93 Points
Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo 2011
Normally $159.00
Special $135.00
Antonio Galloni, Vinous: The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo is a bit darker and more ample than it usually is, a signature of the year. With time in the glass, the typical soaring floral/spiced Rio Sordo bouquet emerges. Dark, sensual and beautifully expressive, the Rio Sordo is another wine that will drink well with minimal cellaring. 93 Points
