Champagne Delamotte - Just in time for the Festive Season

Delamotte Festive Header
Refined Champagne from a old and respected Champagne house
Champagne Delamotte is not only one of the oldest champagne houses, but also, arguably, one of the most refined in style and pedigree.
Established in 1760 in the prestigious village of Le Mesnil, Champagne Delamotte is Chardonnay's most dedicated advocate. Indeed, most of Delamotte's vineyards are planted with Chardonnay, all of which enjoy the exalted Grand Cru status common to the very best Champagnes. Alongside the elegant Delamotte Brut NV (a blend with Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier but Chardonnay-dominant nonetheless) and delicate, strawberry-scented rosé, the Blanc de Blancs cuvées (non-vintage and vintage) are the stars of the show, both tantalisingly rich yet delicate. This is hardly surprising, considering Delamotte's status as sister house of the legendary Salon Champagne, perhaps the world's finest and rarest Blanc de Blancs Champagne.
There is always some talk of what happens with grapes from Delamotte's sister house when Salon decides not to produce a wine (which is rather often). Many speculate that they are used for Delamotte, although Salon chooses not to confirm this!
Today we present the range of Delamotte Champagne including the newly released Blanc de Blancs 2012. With the whisper that no Salon will be released in 2012 one can only speculate!

Champagne Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Vintage 2012
$197.95 a Bottle

Delamotte Vintage BdB label
Antonio Galloni Vinous:  Delamotte's 2012 Brut Vintage is rich, creamy and super-expressive. This is only the second vintage (the first was 2008) in which fruit from Oiry rounds out the classic core of Le Mesnil, Oger and Cramant that forms the backbone of the Vintage. Dried pear, white flowers, chamomile and mint are some of the notes that grace this exquisite understated Blanc de Blancs. The 2012 offers terrific depth and textural resonance in a creamy, expressive style that captures the radiant personality of the year and the understated, quiet voice that is such a Delamotte signature. (Drink between 2020-2037).  94 Points
Champagne Delamotte Blanc de Blancs NV
$142.95 a Bottle
Delamotte BdB VV label Wine Advocate - William Kelley Disgorged in November 2017, this bottle of Delamotte's NV Blanc de Blancs was showing very well, offering up a classy bouquet dominated by aromas of dried white flowers and crushed rock, with hints of green apple, lemon oil and brioche playing a supporting role. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, bright and incisive, marrying structural tension with sufficient charm to make this a decidedly versatile Blanc de Blancs. The finish is pure and chalky.   93 Points
Champagne Delamotte Rose NV
$179.95 a Bottle

Delamotte rose label
New shipment. Recently disgorged.

Burghound:  Light garnet color. An exceptionally fresh and very cool nose displays only wisps of yeast character on the bright nose of cherry, raspberry and strawberry aromas yet there is better depth than the description would suggest. The complexity continues onto the utterly delicious medium weight flavors where the supporting mousse is relatively fine, all wrapped in a balanced, clean, citrusy and lingering finish that is dry but not the least bit austere. This is really very good and while I wouldn't call the SRP a bargain, if you like rosé Champagne this delivers fair value. Note that while this could be aged, for my taste it's drinking perfectly now. 92 Points
Champagne Delamotte Brut NV
$102.95 a Bottle

Delamotte Brut NV label Antonio Galloni Vinous: 50% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier, with 7 g/l dosage): Bright straw. Vibrant aromas of lemon pith, pear skin and honeysuckle, with a chalky topnote. Dry, sharply focused lemon and lime flavors become deeper with air and pick up brioche and ginger nuances. Firm, chewy and dry, finishing with very good clarity and stony persistence.

Clerget Echezeaux En Orveaux label

Domaine Christian Clerget Echezeaux En Orveaux Grand Cru 2016
6 bottles in stock

The Clerget's fly under the radar, Christian preferring to quietly go about his business.

Their top drop is their Echezeaux produced from vines planted in 1947 in the climat of En Orveaux. It is an intense and deeply flavoured wine.

Burghound:  (from a 1.1 ha parcel located in En Orveaux that was planted in 1947, from yields of only 8 hl/ha). Reduction. The exceptionally rich, full-bodied and incredibly dense flavors possess outstanding power yet the palate impression is almost lush thanks to the remarkable level of dry extract that mostly buffers the robust, serious and built-to-age finish. Like the Charmes, despite the presence of a very firm tannic spine, this should be approachable young. 2028+. 91-94 Points

Lambrays Label

Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru 2015

Nearly a monopole this Grand Cru has shot to prominence following the sale of the domaine for an astronomical price.

The 2015 is a stunner and deserves a place in any serious Burgundy cellar.

John Gilman "View from the Cellar":  The 2015 Clos des Lambrays includes ninety-five percent whole clusters this year and is a stunning wine in the making. The bouquet is deep, pure and very expressive out of the blocks, soaring from the glass in a blaze of black plums, sweet cassis, espresso, woodsmoke, gamebird, raw cocoa, a great base of dark soil tones and a nice framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with laser like focus, great balance and grip and a very long, fine-grained and vibrant finish. This will take at least a decade to blossom, but it will be a great wine in the fullness of time. 2025-2075+. 96+ Points
Decanter:  Sweet, elegant raspberry nose with lovely poise and clarity of fruit. A sleek attack, pure and delicate but not lacking in intensity. Finely textured but there's no lack of firm tannins coasting beneath the fruit. Beautifully balanced and very long, with beguiling finesse on the finish. (Drink between 2019-2035).  97 Points
