Corton - Sweet Spot of the Cote d'Or. Cuvee Madame from Chateau Tirecul la Graviere‏

Corton Sweet Spot Header

Grand Cru Burgundy for around $100?

Don't miss this chance to stock up on some brilliant wines at silly prices

Perhaps once dismissed as the poor cousin, the Grand Crus of Aloxe-Corton are now gathering the attention of Burgundy lovers worldwide.

Something has happened in Corton.

A new generation of winemakers, perhaps a change in climate, and a growing awareness of the great terroir (exemplified by Domaine de la Romanee-Conti investing in the commune) has seen an enormous rise in the quality and drinkability of both white and red Corton.

The wines are exciting. The distinctive tannins of red Corton are now covered by rich and deeply flavoured fruit; the whites have body and complexity to match the great whites of the Montrachets. All the same time the top wines retain the unique minerality of Corton's terroirs.

The best thing is that (for the moment at least) Corton Grand Cru can still be purchased at prices equal to or below the cost of Premier Crus from the Cote de Nuits.

In my mind that makes them brilliant value.

We have an excellent selection of wines from Aloxe-Corton, most of which are Grand Crus. We have the tremendous Dubreuil-Fontaine 2010 Grand Crus at just $95, some seriously deep 2009 and 2010 Reds from Comte Senard as well as around two dozen different Corton-Charlemagne. It is a serious selection.

Here is just one wine....

2010 Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru

Normal Price $112.00

Pre Arrival Price $95.00

Dubreuil-Fontiane Clos du Roi Label A 1 hectare slice planted in 1957 and 2002. Clos du Roi is the most famous of Corton's Grand Cru reds. It is the most masculine with deep and sauvage characters that build as the wine ages. One of Burghound's 75 "Don't Miss" 2010 Burgundies from Issue 46. To view this wine on our website click here.

Burghound: A brooding, even taciturn dark berry fruit and pungently earthy nose exhibits distinct game and sauvage characters, both of which continue onto the rich, mouth coating and overtly muscular flavors that possess good power and excellent depth and length. This is very firmly structured and should age impeccably well for 15 to 20 years and last 40 to 50. An impressive Clos du Roi. Drink 2025+. 93 Points

Tirecul Madame Bottle

Chateau Tirecul la Graviere
Cuvee Madame
One of the great sweet wines of the world!

From the time Robert Parker awarded the wine a perfect 100/100 this hand-made sweet wine has been a favourite of those in the know.

Old vines are cropped at ridiculously low yields (2-6 hl/ha) and it can take up to eleven passes through the vineyard to select the most perfect botrytis affected grapes.

The result is a wine of incredible lusciousness and complexity balanced by racy acidity.

If you are a fan of sweet wines why not treat yourself to something very special for Christmas.

We have a few vintages of Cuvee Madame available, albeit in tiny quantities.

Each bottle contains 500mls of nectar!
