An exciting new release for lovers of Rhone wines
Shipment is about to leave France

Ogier produce one of the most interesting ranges of Chateauneuf-du-Pape to be found. They have a 4-Bottle Set titled "Expression de Terroir".

The Set comprises four wines, all with the same blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Cinsault, made from grapes grown on the four different soil types of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Vinification of all wines is the same; traditional with a long maceration, frequent pigeage and pumping over. The wines are aged for 12-14 months in large truncated oak vats.

Only the terroir varies!
Earlier this year I had the opportunity to taste through all four wines with a few clients. What a terrific tasting it was. Just like in Burgundy these wines display unique characters. I am not sure if I had a clear favourite - I feel the best way to purchase is the Set of 4 and try to create the opportunity to taste several wines together. I should also point out the wines are very good value.

Ogier Terroirs Bottles Black

The four terroirs are: Eclats Calcaires (limestone rock), Safres (marl), Gres Rouge (degraded red sandstone) and Galet Roules (rounded glacier pebbles). The resulting wines are quite different!
This year they offer the wines both individually and as a Boxed Set of 4. It is a wonderful idea and provides the opportunity to see the effect soil makes on wines that are the same assemblage. Knowledge is king!

All wines are from the exceptional 2016 vintage. To reintroduce them to our portfolio we offer the wines at a 25% Pre Arrival Discount. You may buy the wines individually or as a Set in a lovely colour box.

Chateauneuf-du-Pape Eclats Calcaires 2016
Landed Price $99.95
Special Pre Arrival Price $74.95

Ogier Eclats Calcaires label
Jeb Dunnuck: The 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Eclats Calcaires offers lighter red fruits and rose petal notes, with a real sense of minerality coming through with time in the glass. Medium-bodied, elegant, and silky, count me in as a fan. The blend is 95% Grenache and 5% Cinsault. 93 Points

James Suckling Tasting Report:
This dishes up some wild, flinty funk. Meaty, reductive notes surround ripe, red and blue fruit with plenty of herbs and graphite-like, stony notes. The palate is fluid, supple and layered with ripe tannins, coated with red fruit. Long and even. Drink or hold. 91 Points
Chateauneuf-du-Pape Galets Roules 2016
Landed Price $99.95
Special Pre Arrival Price $74.95

Ogier Galets Roules label Jeb Dunnuck: Coming all from the famed rolled pebble soils of the appellation, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Galets Roulés is more elegant and silkier than I would have expected, as I always find that this terroir yields more power and richness than elegance. Nevertheless, beautiful notes of kirsch, white flowers, and cherries all flow to a full-bodied, seamless red that's quite close in style to the Eclats Calcaires release
. 92 Points

James Suckling Tasting Report: This is elegant, delivering pristine aromas of wild raspberries, blueberries and mulberries with stony, chalky-mineral accents also holding sway. The palate has a smooth array of plush raspberries and red plums. Really seductive with silky, long tannins. Drink or hold.
 93 Points

Chateauneuf-du-Pape Gres Rouge 2016
Landed Price $99.95
Special Pre Arrival Price $74.95

Ogier Gres Rouge label Jeb Dunnuck: Lots of black fruits, licorice, pepper, and crushed rock notes emerge from the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grès Rouge (red sandstone soils), and it's a richer, powerful wine compared to the other cuvées here. It's mouthfilling and loaded with fruit.
 91 Points

James Suckling Tasting Report: This has almost essence-like concentration and ripeness. The assertive cassis and dark plums are ripened to glossy luster. The tannin texture is smooth and open. Drink or hold.
 92 Points
Chateauneuf-du-Pape Les Safres 2016
Landed Price $99.95
Special Pre Arrival Price $74.95

Ogier Safres label Jeb Dunnuck: The 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Safres shines for its elegance and seamlessness more than its power and richness. Dried red fruits, spice, some dried flowers, and garrigue notes all flow to a medium to full-bodied red that just glides over the palate. A blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Cinsault, it's a beautiful wine.
93 Points

James Suckling Tasting Report: Rich, sweet-raspberry, pepper, herb and fresh, floral allure. The palate is smoothly layered with supple, fine and easy tannins. Long and succulent. Superb, energetic finish. Drink or hold.
93 Points

Clos de I'Oratoire Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2016
Landed Price $129.95
Special Pre Arrival Price $97.50
Ogier Oratoire label Decanter Magazine:
A delightful style of modern Châteauneuf-du-Pape, without sacrificing its warmth and power. Lush in the mouth, it has bright, lightly stewed red cherry and plum fruit and a lick of vanilla. (Drink between 2018-2023). 93 Points
James Suckling Tasting Report:
Very impressive wine with sturdy tannins and plenty of upbeat, dark, punchy fruit on offer. The palate has a very plush, silky edge with ripe, red-plum and blackberry flavors, cast amid assertive, bold but silky tannins. Drink or hold. 93 Points
Drink Rhone - John Livingston-Learmonth:
Shiny dark red colour. A deeply set spicing lies within the bouquet, with airs of black stone fruits, dates, a huskiness that shrouds it rather. The palate bears closely condensed matter, is thick, but keeps moving. The tannins have a darkness that illuminates the close, giving it a spring in its step. It finishes with purpose. This can become interesting and varied. 14.5°. 90,000 b. 80% Gren, 10% Syr, 5% Mourv, 5% Cins. ****(*)

Solitude Barberini Label

Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Barberini Blanc 2015

Vinous - Josh Raynolds:
Limpid yellow. Potent, mineral-laced aromas of tangerine, pear nectar, peach and white flowers, plus a subtle honey flourish. Juicy and broad on the palate, offering intense orchard fruit and citrus marmalade flavors complemented by a refreshing mineral note. Finishes with very good clarity and powerful thrust, leaving pear nectar and chamomile notes behind92 Points

Wine Advocate - Jeb Dunnuck
A bigger, richer wine that has more noticeable oak, the tiny production 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc Cuvee Barberini (80% Roussanne and 20% Clairette, aged in new oak) is tight and backwards at present, and needs a year in bottle to really show its potential. Nevertheless, it offers serious notes of white peach, sautéed apples, brioche and spice, with medium to full-bodied richness and juicy acidity. It's a terrific white that will age gracefully. 91+ Points

Solitude Cornelia Constanza Label

Chateauneuf de Pape Cuvee Cornelia Constanza 2015

Solitude's 100% Grenache cuvee.

Wine Spectator: This has great energy from the start, with notes of bay leaf, warm brick and juniper leading the way, backed by a solid core of red currant, raspberry and plum coulis flavors. The long finish lets sanguine and iron accents flow through while still leaving plenty of room for the fruit. Best from 2020 through 2035. 96 Points

Jeb Dunnuck:
The 2015 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Cornelia Constanza checks in as 100% Grenache from a tiny parcel of 100 year old vines planted in the famed la Crau lieu-dit. It offers lots of Kirsch liqueur, mulled-strawberries, garrigue and floral nuances in a medium to full-bodied, elegant, graceful style. It's already delicious and should keep through 2025. This cuvee also saw a small amount of stems and was partially vinified in new tulip shaped concrete tanks. 93 Points

Solitude Tradition Label

Domaine de la Solitude Chateauneuf-du-Pape Tradition Rouge 2015

Wine AdvocateDomaine de la Solitude turned in a top performance with its 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape. It shows hints of toasted almond or marzipan on the nose, ripe cherries and hints of stone fruit, and while it's richly tannic, the tannins are ripe and velvety. It should drink well for 15+ years. 93 Points

Solitude Secrete Label
Domaine de la Solitude Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Reserve Secrete MAGNUM 2005
1 available

Solitude's top cuvee.

Jeb Dunnuck, The Rhone Report: As with the '07, the 2005 Domaine de la Solitude Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve Secrète sports a relatively modern profile and is a Syrah/Grenache blend that's aged in a combination of smaller barrel and tank. Meaty and dense aromatically, with serious black fruits, coffee, ripe herbs, and touches of chocolate, the wine is straight up fantastic on the palate with a layered, pure character, loads of texture, impeccable balance, and huge length on the finish. These always have an age-worthy feel, and this is no exception. I'd give bottles another 3-5 years and then drink over the following decade or longer. 96 Points
Drink Rhone - John Livingston-Learmonth: full black robe; the bouquet is still primary, with crackly black fruit that holds some herb-garrigue. The palate has a beefy, modern oaked and gutsy nature, with beef stock towards the finish and a herbal aftertaste. Holds a lot of dense, sealed matter, its tannins are quite live and it thrusts long and late. Good, challenging and interesting wine with lots of excitement in it. 2021-24 April 2008, London Previously Jan 2008 ***** 75% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah this year: bright, quite full red-black robe; has a sealed up black fruit aroma, with some tangy black pepper and a little raisin. The palate starts on a balanced, collected note - the fruit flows well, and continues with an assured persistence. Has a late bundle of red fruits, live end tannins and pretty freshness. Wholesome, well-balanced wine. 5 Stars
