Half Price 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin! Terroirs of Gevrey-Chambertin Tasting Pack

Gevrey Terroirs Header

Our latest Tasting Pack focuses on the red wines of Gevrey-Chambertin

With is Gallo-Roman origins and a special place in the heart of Napoleon, Gevrey-Chambertin is one of the oldest and grandest communes of Burgundy.

The commune boasts 9 of the 24 Cote de Nuits Grand Crus including the "King of Wines" - Chambertin.  There are also 26 Premier Crus which split into two main groups. One lies alongside the Grand Crus, the other at the very top of the village. There is also the glorious 1er Cru Les Combottes which is on the border squeezed in between a trio of Grand Crus on the Morey border.

The wines of Gevrey-Chambertin have a big personality. They are full, rich and masculine in style. They exhibit serious structure with animale, earth and mineral notes. And they cellar very well.

Our latest Red "Terroirs" Pack focuses on the wines of Gevrey-Chambertin. Most wines in the Pack are Premier Crus which come from all corners of the commune including two different vintages of Les Combottes. I often wonder why this vineyard is not Grand Cru. Apparently politics is the reason!

Leclerc Cazetiers Label
2009 1er Cru Cazetiers
Normally $165.00
Special Half Price $82.50
Burghound: Visible but reasonably well-integrated wood sets off cool and airy red berry fruit aromas that carry both earth and sauvage undertones, both of which can also be found on the rich, full and precise yet overtly muscular and powerful flavors that culminate in a naturally sweet and driving finish where, like the Combe Aux Moines, there is noticeable wood influence. This should be excellent if allowed to have 10 to 12 years of cellar time first. I would again note that there is ample oak influence at present and thus this would not be a particularly good choice to drink young. A Sweet Spot wine. 92 Points

Leclerc Combe Label
2009 1er Cru Combe Aux Moines
Normally $185.00
Special Half Price $92.50
Burghound: Noticeable but not really intrusive wood presently fights a bit with the otherwise fresh and well-layered aromas of plum and cassis. There is by contrast a real sense of underlying vitality to the exceptionally fresh and vibrant middle weight flavors that also brim with both copious amounts of dry extract and ample minerality on the serious yet not particularly rustic, powerful and firmly tannic and still slightly woody finish. This is well-balanced from the standpoint of the density of material relative to the structural elements and as such, I believe the wood will be successfully absorbed in time but I take pain to note that it is not especially subtle at present. A Sweet Spot Wine. 92 points
