Chassagne-Montrachet is quite a large commune. It boasts over 50 Premier Cru vineyards, although many are subdivisions of larger classified sites.
The soil structure is complex and has more in common with the Cote de Nuits. Above the village the land slopes upwards towards the forest and a quarry producing pink-grey marble-like stone can be seen.
Higher on the slopes the soil is more limestone producing wines with minerality. As you travel down slope there is more clay, with gravel and limestone pieces which produce fuller bodied wines.
The different soils, aspects and micro climates are what makes Burgundy so interesting.
Our Mixed Dozen Tasting Pack comprises 12 Different Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Crus from the classic 2010 vintage.
