There is no doubt about it - Richebourg IS one of the great wines of Burgundy. It is also hard to find as there are only 11 owners and outside DRC nobody owns more than 0.78 hectares.
Domaine Anne-Francoise Gros are the fourth largest land owners in Richebourg. Their 0.60 hectares are (uniquely) an almost even split between the climats of Les Richebourgs and Les Veroilles.
Allen Meadows (Burghound) and Matt Kramer use the word "aggregator" to describe Richebourg. It can combine some of the aromatics of Romanee-St-Vivant, the power and longevity of Grands Echezeaux, the minerality of La Romanee, palate length of La Tache and can even become as dramatic as Romanee-Conti with age.
To quote Allen Meadows "In sum, Richebourg conveys every aspect of a great Burgundy; a soaring and decadently spicy nose, seductive richness, power and energy, all wrapped in a mouth coating, velvety and mineral-driven finish that knows no boundaries." The classic iron fist in a velvet glove.

The iconic Clive Coates, in issue 34 of The World of Fine Wine, scored this wine a perfect 20/20! That was higher than the 2008 La Tache and equal with the 2008 La Romanee-Conti! To see the list of his top rated wines click here.
Fullish colour. High-toned, oaky nose. Youthful. Good energy. Very harmonious. Splendid ripe fruit. Full body. Fine tannins. Really classy, concentrated fruit and a very lovely, long finish. Excellent. 20/20
At $424.00 this is remarkable value for Richebourg.
Domaine A-F Gros Richebourg 2010

Jancis Robinson is not afraid to call a spade a spade. When she thinks a wine is really special she rewards it accordingly and without an excess of words.
This has the extra something you look for from grand crus - a matchless level of complexity in the flavour. Very drinkable now. Eloquent. Refreshing, perfumed, sophisticated. 19+/20

We have just over a case of the 2010 and a little more of the 2008 available. With the small vintages in 2011 and particularly 2012 I can assure you that prices for Richebourg will rise significantly. And will they be as good as these two wines?
These are wines to put into the cellar and enjoy with age. Meadows suggest 15-20 years for great Richebourg. Imagine the cost of the current vintage when these wines are mature! One can never have too much Richebourg - pop some away at today's special prices.
