End of the Week Bargains. 2 Classy Pommards from 2014 and 2015. Almost Half Price!

Two top Pommard from a new cult producer - almost half price!

We all love a bargain and what better way to finish the week than with a super offer on two serious wines.
In the past it was not common to describe Pommard as stylish. The wines were big, meaty and tannic. However, just as has occured in Aloxe-Corton, many makers of Pommard have found their mojo and are making wines that are fine and simply more delicious.
One of these is Domaine Launay-Horiot. This is a very exciting new domaine with some wonderful vineyard holdings.
Today we have a very special offer on the Pommard Les Perrieres 2015 and the 1er Cru Clos Blanc 2014.

Les Perrieres is a 10.14 hectare vineyard located across the road from the Premier Cru Les Epenots.

Clos Blanc (4.18 ha) is located next to Les Grands Epenots. The soil is perhaps a little whiter here which could be the reason for the name.

The 2014 vintage has produced wonderful reds that are classically styled with concentration and intensity. And we all know how good the 2015 vintage is!

2014 was also the first commercial release from Domaine Launay-Horiot and as such is something of a collector's item.

Quantities remaining are small. Mix and match and pop a case in the cellar to drink over the next decade.

2015 vintage!
Xavier has 2.2 hectares of this virtual monopole, of which about a third was planted way back in 1906. It has lovely grainy aromas which mingle with an attractive earthiness. The mid-palate is pretty with bright red fruits and an elegance and refinement so rarely seen in this appellation. Good length and energy on the finish make the wine very complete. 20% new oak is just right and doesn't interfere. A top example of village Pommard. Drink from 2019.

Bettane and Desseauve:
Full, rich, with a height and generous volume, this impresses with its precision and their fine balance between fruit maturity, firm and soft tannins, and the tonicity of its vibratory acidity. Bottles can be devoured today or will seduce for the next 6 to 10 years. 17/20

Berthelemot Abbaye Morgeot Header
Berthelemot Abbaye Label 2

Domaine Brigitte Berthelemot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot 2015 and 2016
Last bottles - just $99.95 today

Around 1550 Cistercian monks from the Abbey of Maizieres built the Morgeot Abbey in the hamlet of Chassagne-Montrachet.

Today, the Abbey is uninhabited and in decay but it lends its name to the vineyards surrounding it which in effect lie within the 1er Crus Morgeot and La Chapelle.

The soil here is limestone marl, red-tinted with ferrous oxides on a layer of bathonian limestone pebbles. Unlike much of Morgeot this part of the vineyard was traditionally a white wine site. It produces a more mineral wine than most of Morgeot hence the reason that it is labelled with more detail.

In 2011 Domaine Berthelemot purchased a 0.5316 hectare parcel in this interesting vineyard.
Today we present the 2015 and 2016 from Domaine Brigitte Berthelemot. We only have 8 bottles of 2015 and 12 bottles of 2016 left. Great drinking at a low, low price.
2015
Darren Harris:
Pears, mixed spice, butter pastry. A hint of fine oak. Medium weight on the mid palate which expands in the most glorious way. Peacock's tail in a white? But overall there is a sense of restraint, particularly for 2015, with a lovely crunchy citric-driven, acid finish. Palate staining in an elegant way. Very fine Chassagne.
2016
Darren Harris: Vibrant nose of white peach, flowers and white stone. Quite powerful. The palate walks a line between fullness and body and minerals and acidity. Long and stoney on the finish with excellent persistence. Dry and mouth filling. There's plenty to enjoy here.
