Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne. Great buying at $99.95 a bottle

Berthelemot Garenne Header
High quality Premier Cru Puligny-Montrachet at under $100 a bottle!
Most Burgundy aficionados will agree that white Burgundy attains its pinnacle in Puligny-Montrachet. Here the terroir produces wines with more minerality and higher acid than the communes alongside.
This reputation comes at a price and Puligny is typically more expensive than Chassagne or Meursault.
The Premier Cru La Garenne is located high on the Puligny hill above Les Folatieres. Here the soil is thinner and the air cooler resulting in a wine of finesse and delicacy. It is a part of Puligny I like very much.
This wine is, considering the general shortfall in production in 2016, absolutely unbelievable value. Most Puligny Premier Crus will cost you around $175.00-$250.00 a bottle. This is half the price. Where else can you buy 1er Cru Puligny for under $100.00?
Delicious drinking at a fantastic price.

Darren Harris:
Located high on the hill La Garenne gets its name from the old French word for a woodland reserved for hunting by a nobleman or monastery. Wild beasts are still found in the forests around the Burgundy vineyards and occasionally a vigneron comments on damage done by these animals.
The soil here is light and the wines produced are more about elegance than weight. The 2016 La Garenne has a nose of pears, stoney minerals, fennel and coriander seeds. The palate opens out with a creamy character unpinned by a little oak. It is medium weight with oodles of flavour finishing with cleansing citric acidity.

Decanter World Wine Awards:
Buttered toast nose with hint of lime then fresh, nutty, creamy-textured mouthful enhanced by tense fine spine of citrusy acidity. 90 Points

Bichot La Justice label

Albert Bichot Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice 2015
17 bottles available

The Gevrey lieu-dit La Justice is an interesting vineyard. In theory it is located on the wrong side of the road - east of the D974. However, a fault line allows a base of limestone to come into play and the sandy top soil allows excellent drainage of what is otherwise a flat site.
Albert Bichot says "La Justice" is a very old vineyard that is located in the middle and the best part of the alluvial fan, which combines all of the geological matter that has been moved down through the valley over the millennia. "La Justice" owes its name to the fact that these vineyards belonged to the Lord of Gevrey, the Abbot of Cluny, who had all of the power in this part of the land that had been given to him. Here, "justice" means "jurisdiction" from the Latin JURISDICTIO, or "the right to administer justice", and by extension, power, authority, control.
The vineyard has been highly regarded for a long time and is considered one of the finest lieu-dits in Gevrey-Chambertin. The wine produced is frequently of Premier Cru quality with dark fruit and mineral-infused flavours. It has an elegance with the power delivered by the best wines of Gevrey-Chambertin.
Producer: Aromas of red fruit on the nose (black cherry, blackberry). Subtle hints of oak are complemented by notes of liquorice. Over time, notes of spices, forest undergrowth, even musky notes will develop. This wine is silky, structured, tannic and well-balanced on the palate. The finish features all the fruitiness of the nose.
Darren Harris: Bright red. Nose of sweet, cool red berries especially mulberry, liquorice and minerally earth. The palate is full and mouthfilling with the elements from the nose and a lick of limestone. Quite generous in style as is typical of the exceptional 2015 vintage, finishing with fine acid and tannin.
