See the list at the bottom of the email - be quick there is not much left!
These are tremendous examples of Gevrey-Chambertin from some rarely seen vineyards (no less than 4 Monopoles).

Named after a 12th century Premier Cru vineyard, the Domaine des Varoillles has expanded over the years to cover 10 hectares in 8 special appellations.

The meticulous Gilbert Hammel is in charge of the vineyards which include 4 Monoples in Gevrey-Chambertin! The Premier Cru Monopoles Clos des Varoilles and La Romanee lie high in the cool combe near Lavaux St-Jacques and Clos St-Jacques and express a beauty and elegance seldom seen in Gevrey-Chambertin.

Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Couvent Monopole 2016
Landed Price $145.95
Pre Arrival Price $109.50

Varoilles Couvent label
A half hectare Monopole.
Graceful, with noble tannins, tender and refined, the Clos du Couvent expresses fidelity to its terroir in fruity touches, dominated by cassis and blackberry.

Darren Harris: The domaine's "home block" Monopole located within the domaine's walls alongside the old convent on the property.
Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Meix des Ouches Monopole 2016
Normal Price $167.50
Special $125.50
27 bottles in stock from Shipment One
Varoilles Clos du Meix
A 1 hectare Monopole. Beautifully located this wine combines liveliness and tannins with fine aromas of fresh wild berries and red fruits. With five years age becomes velvety smooth.

Jancis Robinson:
Monopole. Mid purplish crimson. Dark fruits and some oak sweetness are the first impression. Quite oaky but not excessive at this stage. Same oak sweetness on the palate and plenty of dark fruit, the tannins smooth and deep. Velvety and sweet-fruited to a long finish. Generous and rounded. 16.5/20

Darren Harris:
Just bottled. Red-garnet colour. Plenty of aromatics - red-black fruits, a little liquorice, a touch of minerally earth. Fresh and bright with a fullness in the mouth. The tannins are fine and well coated leaving a lovely sense of roundness and balance.
Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Champonnet 2016

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru La Romanee Monopole 2016
Landed Price $229.95
Pre Arrival Price $172.50
Varoilles Romanee Label
A 1.06 hectare Monopole. With a great finesse, generous and opulent in mellow tannins, this premier cru cleverly mixes black fruits with the scent of humus and smoke to compose a voluptuous bouquet. Four to five years in the cellar to blossom.

Jancis Robsinson: Monopole. Mid cherry red. Again that attractive dusty/mineral nose, maybe whole-bunch influence, more noticeable than on the above. Super-moreish and extremely fine tannin texture. Finesse and harmony with a mouth-watering finish17/20

Darren Harris:
A super monopole from high in the combe that influences the best 1er Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin. La Romanee is stony and south facing but the forest provides some shade and ensures a cool wine with great finesse.

60 year old vines. 100% destemmed. Very different to Champonnet served before it. A gorgeously restrained nose of cherry, earth and iron. The palate has crunchy red-black fruits and fine mineral notes that fan out in in the mouth. The tannins start late and provides a long and elegant finish. This is a wine of considerable finesse and style.

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos des Varoilles Monopole 2016
Landed Price $229.95
Pre Arrival Price $172.50

Darren Harris:
Immediately south of La Romanee, high in the combe. Clos des Varoilles in a significant monopole of almost 6 hectares that was planted in the second half of the 13th century by the Chapter of Langres before it was dispossessed during the French Revolution.

45-65 year old vines, 40% new oak. Deeper and richer than La Romanee with more breadth and complexity. Darker fruits with some liquorice-scented floral notes and a hint of wildness. There is a fine spine of acidity running through the wine which ensures, despite some weight, it remains balanced and captivating.  A Premier Cru to add to your must buy list.
Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos des Varoilles Monopole Cuvee Prestige 100% Vieilles Vignes 2016
Landed Price $256.95
Pre Arrival Price $192.50
Varoilles Prestige label The cuvee "Prestige hundred percent" from the Clos des Varoilles 1er Cru comes from a plot selection of old vines, raised about 18 months "100%" in new barrels specially selected for this reserve.

The wine is concentrated, complex, and of a remarkable power. Vin de gard par excellence, it merits 10 to 15 years of patience.
Bottled without fining or filtration. Decanting is advised.

It is an exceptional wine that reflects the quintessence of the terroir and all the complexity of new oak.
Darren Harris: There are only 2 barrels of this special cuvee produced from the oldest vines in this Monopole. I think the domaine likes to keep it a bit of a secret but we have managed to snare a few cases.

Tasted after the regular cuvee. Incredibly deep colour. Still purple. Powerful and layered nose taking all the elements from the regular cuvee and mgnifying them, and then adding nuances of its own. Small, crunchy dark fruits, liquorice and flowers. Fresh spices. So so deep. The century old vines add texture, intensity and power. The palate has the weight and depth of a serious Grand Cru. 100% new oak but totally surrounded by complex fruit flavours. Thirty minutes in the glass saw the wine go to another level as the true character of this great parcel really blossomed. Exceptional. A must have!
Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2016
Landed Price $378.50
Pre Arrival Price $283.95
Varoilles Charmes label
A 3/4 hectare holding. Charmes-Chambertin combines the proverbial vigor and robustness of Chambertin with elegance and finesse. Intensity of aromas, with animal scents, well-established tannic structure and power are the hallmarks of this grand-cru.

Jancis Robinson: Deep cherry red. Deep in sweet fruit and oak sweetness. Smooth, velvet tannins and has plenty of freshness under the (currently) very obvious oak. Needs time for the oak to recede but it has plenty of stuffing to do that.
17/20

Darren Harris:
Charmes-Chambertin remains a bit of an enigma. It is by no means the most popular Grand Cru of Gevrey but when it is good, it can be very, very good. Domaine des Varoilles Charmes-Chambertin is a supremely impressive wine. It is bigger and much deeper than all of the Premier Crus. The nose displays dark fruits, smoke and minerals. On the palate there is more with dark chocolate and a rich, creamy texture. There is new oak (60% used here) and some powerful but not coarse tannins. Needs some time in the cellar. Great Charmes!
Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2016
Landed Price $378.50
Pre Arrival Price $283.95

Varoilles Vougeot label A 1 hectare holding. We only had 12 bottles of this wine in the original shipment. I served it at a dinner with some clients and they purchased every bottle. I was not smart enough to write a tasting note as I didn't expect to be able to secure additional bottles. I have another 12 bottles coming in our second shipment. This was an exceptional wine. Forget your pre-conceived ideas of Clos Vougeot and grab a bottle.

Fourrier Gevrey VV label

Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Vieille Vigne 2005
9 bottles available
We don't often have Fourrier Burgundies available. Here is one from the great 2005 vintage.

John Gilman "View from the Cellar": The second Gevrey AC bottling chez Fourrier hails from vineyards on the Brochon border below the premier cru of Champeaux. I have always had a preference for the more refined personality of this bottling, and this is certainly the case in 2005. The wine is simply lovely as it offers up a complex and very pure mélange of cherries, red plums, great minerality, cocoa, a touch of raspberry and an elegant note of spice in the upper register. On the palate the wine is medium-full, tangy and intensely flavored, with supple tannins, great acids, and beautiful bounce and tang on the long, red fruity and soil-driven finish. A very, very classy village wine (Drink between 2008-2020). 91 Points

Remy Latricieres-Chambertin
Domaine Louis Remy Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru 2008
5 bottles available
An 11 year old Grand Cru straight from the domaine for less than the cost of a current release!
Jancis Robinson: Racy and lively and transparent. Drier than the Clos de Roche. Very appetising. Racy and solid. And the price is not totally silly. (Drink between 2013-2022). 18/20

Bichot Lavaux Label
Albert Bichot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux-St-Jacques 2014
12 bottles available

One of the great appellations of the Côte de Nuits both in terms of size and of reputation, Gevrey Chambertin is characterised by a wide variety of different terroirs. No white wines are found here, only pinot noir is cultivated. These vines are situated along the slopes lining the exit of the Lavaux combe and are orientated southeast to east-southeast. The soil is shallow and light with brown limestone on the upper section and brown calcite towards the lower portion. The presence of clay is abundant on thick limestone beds dating to mid- to late-Paleozoic.
Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast: This rich wine is dense with dark tannins and concentrated structure. The vineyard, with cool winds from the valley behind, gives wines that demand aging with their tannins and fragrant fruit. The aftertaste is full of promise. Drink after 2022.
94 Points

Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report":
Beautifully perfumed nose, exquisitely perfumed over deeper fruit. Large-scaled, faintly saline, a little tannin at the base but also supple, energetic and engagingly complex. What a lovely wine...Mouth watering, almost mouth staining flavour. A bigger, slightly broader wine than the Vosne (1er Cru Malconsorts), and today, maybe better! 93 Points

Magnien Estournelles label
Domaine Henri Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles St-Jacques 2014
16 bottles available
A small 2.04 hectare vineyard alongside the upper portion of Clos St-Jacques.
Darren Harris:
Deep colour. Nose of cool, red fruits with a mineral tang. Elegant, yet intense palate with fresh red fruits; currant, cherry, a cool floral note and lots of minerals. Not particularly earthy like many Gevreys. The overall impression is a wine of elegance with considerable power lurking below.  Fine and punchy. A lovely wine.

Roblot-Marchand Croix Champs label
Domaine Roblot-Marchand Gevrey-Chambertin La Croix des Champs 2015
5 bottles available
A bargain from our Bin Ends List!
Darren Harris: Les Croix des Champs is located on the eastern side of the D974. More weight and power than the Chambolle-Musigny Les Pas de Chats and a different aromatic profile with mineral and earth in addition to the red-black fruits. The palate is racy and fresh with good intensity and fine acidity adding to the finish. I like the vibrancy very much. This too is very representative of its village and a great comparsion with the Chambolle.
