Chezeaux 2017 releases header 25%
Scarce 2017's from Domaine des Chezeaux. Made by Laurent Ponsot and Amelie Berthaut. Very limited indeed!
Created in 1982 from vines owned by the Mercier family since 1928, Domaine des Chezeaux comprises 4 hectares of high quality vineyards.
They own nearly 60% of Griotte-Chambertin (1.57 hectares) as well as vines in Clos St-Denis, Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Charmes, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St-Jacques and Cazetiers and Gevrey villages.

While Domaine des Chézeaux sells wine under its own label, it does not work the vines or make the wines. All of their wines are made under metayage arrangements with either Laurent Ponsot or Amelie Berthaut.
The Griottes-Chambertin, Clos St. Denis, Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Charmes are made by Ponsot. The Gevrey 1er Cru and Village wines are made by Berthaut.
The arrangement is the same, and is indeed a very old French style of agreement. Ponsot and Berthaut work the vineyards and make the wines one third of the finished product is given to Chezeaux as payment.

The Domaine des Chezeaux wines are identical to those bottled under the Ponsot or Berthaut labels (simply one third of the bottled wines are returned to Chezeaux). Only the label design is different! (Oh, and the price - especially of the Ponsot-made wines).

If you are a fan of Domaine des Chezeaux, Ponsot or Berthaut  wines you should not miss today's offer for Domaine de Chezeaux. We're going to extend the Pre Arrival Discount to 25% for all wines today but you'll need to act quickly as quantities available are tiny.

Domaine des Chezeaux (Ponsot) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 2017
Normal Price $325.00
Special Pre Arrival Price $243.50

Chezeaux Charmes label John Gilman "View from the Cellar": As I noted last year, Laurent has retained his contract for the vineyards from Domaine des Chézeaux, so the Chambolle "Charmes" and the other wines made from the fermage agreement are much the same here as they were at Domaine Ponsot. The 2017 Charmes offers up a lovely and ripe bouquet of red plums, black cherries, beetroot, a touch of chocolate, a fien base of soil, gamebird and a topnote of mustard seed. On the palate the wine is deep, full and sappy at the core, with modest tannins, good, tangy acids and a very long, complex and quite plush finish. Good juice. 2022-2050+. 93 Points

Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru

Normal Price $675.00
Special Pre Arrival Price $506.00
Chezeaux Griottes
John Gilman "View from the Cellar":
The 2017 Griotte-Chambertin from the Ponsots is excellent and very much cut from the same stylistic cloth as it was back during Laurent's time at the helm of Domaine Ponsot in Morey. The ripe and very expressive nose wafts from the glass in a mix of sappy black cherries, black plums, dark chocolate, chalky soil tones, grilled meats, mustard seed and a bit of beetroot in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, precise and impressively mineral in personality, with a sappy core, ripe tannins and fine balance and grip on the long, tangy and complex finish. A superb Ponsot Griotte! 2027-2075.

Jomain puligny Villages Label
Domaine Jomain Puligny-Montrachet 2016
Last 13 bottles

The domaine's Villages Puligny comes from two parcels just below the Premier Cru Les Pucelles (not too shoddy!). The vines were planted almost 50 years ago. The old vine fruit and the excellent location result in a white Burgundy with exceptional depth and intensity seldom seen at this level.

Darren Harris: The Bourgogne Chardonnay is incredible for the price but the Puligny Villages is a step up. It is more intense and layered. A melange of lemon, lime and grapefruit with a little dusty oak in the background. It is crisp and mineral with higher acid and more length. Yet it is still mouthfilling. Stylish and typical. I am often underwhelmed with Villages White Burgundy but this is just super. If you are looking for a Puligny-Montrachet to drink with great pleasure on a regular basis this is it.

Normally $116.95

Bichot 2016 Roche Header
Albert Bichot Clos-de-la-Roche Grand Cru 2016
Last 4 Bottles
Gold Medal at the International Wine Challenge.
International Wine Challenge 2018: Nose very tight with astringent, slightly green fruit tannins. Very youthful and tight like a coiled spring. Needs at least five years but will be great. Gold Medal. 95 Points

Tim Atkin MW: The Bichot teams has total control over when these grapes are picked, which makes the distinction between négociant and domaine wines comparatively slight. This is an impressive rendition of one of Morey's two Grands Crus, with one-third new oak, fine-grained tannins and ripe, textured fruit. 2022-30. 96 Points

Burghound:
(from Genavrières). A highly complex and much earthier and sauvage-inflected nose offers up notes of cassis and blue pinot fruit that is nuanced by hints of smoke and spice. There is outstanding richness to the powerful, concentrated and overtly muscular broad-shouldered flavors that possess strikingly impressive persistence on the austere, backward and very firmly structured finish. This brooding but most promising effort is quite compact at present and will need plenty of time to flesh out. 2033+. 92-95 Points
