Domaine Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru Les Teurons 2014
Normally $108.50
Special $75.95
12 bottles available

Morot Teurons Label
Vinous: Stephen Tanzer:
Good medium red. Displays a darker fruit character than the Bressandes, along with notes of animal fur and smoked meat. Less sweet and more imploded in the mouth, with the dark fruit flavors firmed by a strong mineral spine that should enable this concentrated, gamey, slightly reduced wine to age slowly. Today the tannins are a bit less buffered than those of the Marconnets, but this wine needs time to expand. Choppin de Janvry told me he finds these 2014s rather like the 2006s. 90-92 Points

Domaine Jean Chartron Savigny-le-Beaune Les Pimentiers 2015
Normally $81.95
Special $57.35
12 bottles available

chartron savigny pimentiers label
John Gilman "View from the Cellar":
The 2015 vintage produced some lovely examples of Savigny blanc, in the cases where producers were not hustling to bring in their red grapes first in the village. This of course was not an issue at Domaine Chartron and their 2015 Pimentiers Blanc is excellent, offering up a vibrant nose of apple, pear, lime zest, chalky soil tones, spring flowers and discreet base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, crisp and very well-balanced, with a good core, fine length and grip and a long, vibrant and nascently complex finish. 2016-2025+. 91 Points

Seguin-Manuel Beaune 1er Cru Cent Vignes 2015
Normally $121.95
Special $85.35
8 bottles available
Seguin-manuel Beaune Cent Vignes label
Wine Advocate - Neal Martin: The 2015 Beaune 1er Cru Les Cents Vignes, under Domaine Seguin Manuel, offers attractive brambly red berry fruit on the nose with a subtle damp undergrowth scent developing. The palate is crisp with fine tannin, a touch of blackcurrant tincturing the tart red cherry fruit with impressive focus and poise on the finish. Excellent. 90-92 Points

Domaine Christian Clerget Chambolle-Musigny 2015
Normally $159.95
Special $111.95
12 bottles available

Clerget Chambolle Label
Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report":
The biggest cuvée of the domaine - 2 hectares of vines, made up from 7 different lieu dits mainly in the bottom of Chambolle.
Super colour. Fresh wide, intensely, slowly, adding fine but faint floral notes. Really nice volume, a little structure but very nice fruit indeed. Super depth and with a lovely burst of floral-inflected finishing flavour - this just keeps getting better in the glass.

Domaine Pascal Bouley Volnay Les Pluchots 2015
Normally $82.95
Special $58.00
8 bottles available
Bouley Volnay Pluchots 2015 Label
Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report":
Deeper colour. Here the nose is higher-toned. More direct, more mineral, super intensity. Back to the crunchy fruit style but here with a little modest tannin to support too. Very tasty in the finish - and it holds superbly well.
Domaine Brigitte Berthelemot Puligny-Montrachet Les Levrons 2016
Normally $111.50
Special $78.00
8 bottles available
Berthelemot Levrons Label
Bourgogne Aujourd'Hui:
Intense nose of yellow fruits, with notes of pastry. Nice balance in the mouth, with a creamy side and tension in the finish. 16/20

Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay 1er Cru Pitures 2015
Normally $159.50
Special $111.65
9 bottles available
Bitouzet Pitures New Label
Burghound:
(from 35+ year old vines). In the same fashion as the several of the prior wines there is a touch of prune present though in this case it is quite subtle and doesn't fight with the aromas of violet, earth, licorice and dark berries. There is excellent size, weight, richness and power to the big-bodied and concentrated flavors that for all the punch manage to remain refined on the balanced and hugely long finish. Like the Champans this is a big and very structured wine that, because of the slightly fresher nose, gives me a bit more confidence for its longer-term prospects. 2030+. 91 Points
Domaine Morey-Coffinet Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrieres 2014
Normally $275.00
Special $192.50
7 bottles available
morey-coffinet Perrieres NV label Burghound:
An appealingly fresh, pure and elegant nose of acacia blossom, citrus and green apple is trimmed in just enough wood to notice. The ultra-fine, well-detailed and vibrant middle weight flavors display an abundance of mouth coating dry extract before terminating in an energetic, intensely mineral-inflected and highly persistent finish. This too is going to require at least 5 years or so of bottle age and should amply reward up to 10. 2022+. 92 Points

Domaine Anne and Herve Sigaut Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Chatelots 2012
Normally $131.95
Special $92.35
6 bottles available

Sigaut Chatelots labelBurghound:
A brooding and somber nose offers up notes of plum, various dark berries and subtle spice nuances. The lilting and lacy middle weight flavors exude a fine minerality on the delicious finish that is shaped by very fine-grained tannins and fine persistence. This is very Chambolle in character. 2018+. 89-91 Points
Domaine Jean Chartron Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Normally $432.95
Special $303.00
7 bottles available

Chartron Corton Label John Gilman "View from the Cellar":
The 2015 Corton-Charlemagne from Domaine Chartron is very, very strong this year and I actually prefer it to the Bâtard in this vintage! The bouquet is outstanding, soaring from the glass in a complex blend of pear, lemon, tangerine, chalky minerality, fresh almond, vanillin oak and just a hint in the upper register of the honeycomb to come with bottle age. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and racy in personality, with a rock solid core, excellent focus and grip and a very long, pure and vibrant finish. Excellent wine. 2018-2040. 94+ Points

Vosne lunch Ryne March 2019 header

What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon? 12 Different Vosne-Romanee and a 4-course menu
We all love Vosne-Romanee - it's Burgundy's top red wine commune. To kick start 2019 we have a terrific Sunday lunch planned at Ryne featuring 12 different Vosne-Romanee.

This lunch was originally planned for 3 February but I became unavailable at late notice. So we have rescheduled the exact same lunch on 3 March 2019.
We've split the wines into three brackets starting with a bracket of 4 Villages Vosne-Romanee. These will allow you to hone the palate and get an idea of the style of Vosne-Romanee.
We'll then move on to the next bracket featuring 4 lieux-dits. Here the varying terroirs of Vosne-Romanee can be explored with wines from all corners of the Vosne compass.

To finish we have an intriguing Premier Cru bracket starting with the famous Les Suchots and concluding with 3 different Les Beaux Monts, one of my favourite vineyards.

We have 6 wines from each of the 2016 and 2015 vintages. They are both great - it is a matter of style as to which you prefer. This is a great opportunity to taste and compare.

The lunch will be at Ryne. Chef Donovan Cooke will prepare a matching 4-course menu.

Donovan Cooke For those of you who don't know Donovan he has quite a CV. Starting in Europe, he worked his way through the Savoy Hotel, Waterside Inn in Bray, Harvey's in London and La Cote St Jacques in Burgundy. In 1997 he shifted his focus to Melbourne where he co-opened the highly influential restaurant Est Est Est, followed by Luxe (awarded 3 hats in its first year) and Ondine (Best New Restaurant, The Age Good Food Guide).

Donovan was presented with the reigns of the Derby Restaurant and Bar at The Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club. He served as Chef de Cuisine for the next 6 and a half years. He has now returned to Melbourne to start this latest venture - Ryne. To view Ryne's website click here.

Jomain Perrieres label
Domaine Jomain Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrieres 2014
Last 14 bottles
Bill Nanson on Domaine Jomain: The wine I would search out, however, is Les Perrieres - a wine of outstanding intensity, where the terroir doesn't have a particularly obvious mark, and yet it combines finesse and minerality.

Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report":
Also more floral but this time a wider and more elegant nose. Weight of flavour here, it saturates the palate - there is also minerality too. On the other hand here is richness and less energy, yet the acidity slowly shines through. More contemplative wine, but one that I would be happy to wait for...

Darren Harris: 6 barrels in 2014. There are numerous Perrieres vineyards in Burgundy and they always indicate the presence of stone - in this case from the remnants of old quarries. The stone always ensures a mineral complexity. Very pure and mineral on the nose. Citrus, flowers and cold, white stones. There is a beautiful elegance combined with piercing Puligny freshness. A real dancer on the palate. Saline, racy and long and I have to say delicious. Classic Puligny-Montrachet and such good value.

Castagnier Chambolle label new

Domaine Jerome Castagnier Chambolle-Musigny 2015
15 bottles left

Wine Spectator:
Vibrant, this red exudes violet, black cherry, blackberry and earth flavors. The firm backbone lends plenty of support, leaving room for a beam of pure cherry on the lingering aftertaste. Best from 2021 through 2036. 92 Points

Grivot Vougeot label

Domaine Jean Grivot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 1998
21 Years Young!

Burghound: As young Clos de Vougeot often is, this wine is a good deal less generous now than the '98 Echézeaux and is borderline austere yet there is plenty of solid material beneath the sober veneer. There is good sappy pinot extract with big, heavily soil inflected flavors and good length. A big wine needing 10 to 12 years to resolve its structure but it should amply reward the patient. 92 Points
