Serious Wines from a Private Cellar

Private Cellar Header
Another super parcel from a great private cellar

We love to offer serious wines from private cellars. The wines must be top quality and professionally cellared to meet our strict criteria. These wines have come from one of our favourite private sources.

Today we are delighted to present a new selection of aged wines from top vintages.

It is quite rare to see these vintages as most owners tend to keep them. However, this client has a 10,000 bottle cellar so a few bottles won't be missed.

This is a great opportunity to grab some perfectly cellared wines that were purchased on release and professionally cellared since. These wines are not auction purchases that have been around the traps. It is worth stocking up!

Some highlights still available...
Domaine Armand Rousseau Pere & Fils Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 1999
$850.00 a bottle
3 bottles available
Rousseau Roche Mood
Jancis Robinson: Extremely sweet and voluptuous - almost over the top. Full-blown. So sweet, ripe
and heady it smells like treacle-toffee ice cream with the merest hint of
rhubarb. So gorgeous!!! Why can't all red burgundy deliver this much pleasure?
Rich, sweet and long. But not heavy at all. Lush just doesn't cover it. Neatly gathered up on the finish.
(Drink between 2009-2025). 20/20

Burghound: An exceptionally pretty, even perfumed nose is still relatively primary with its combination of various red berries, earth and soft earth and leather nuances. There is excellent size and weight to the seductively rich but overtly powerful big-bodied flavors that deliver outstanding length where the only minor nit is a touch of warmth. This remains notably robust and will need at least another 5 to 10 years to arrive at its full peak. In a word, impressive.
(Drink starting 2024).

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 1999
$750.00 a bottle
5 bottles available

Vogue Bonnes-Mares Burghound: Massive notes of blueberry and blackberry jam yet there is a certain austerity to the nose followed by flavors that are huge, firm, reserved and extremely dense and while there is a solid underpinning of tannin, they are wrapped in sappy velvet. The length is just flat out stunning and very powerful. This remains quite closed and while it presently does not possess the refinement of either the '02 or the '01, with time it may catch them as the underlying material is every bit as good. Consistent notes save for this most recent bottle which exhibited just a touch of finishing dryness. (Drink starting 2014). 93 Points

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru 1996
$950.00 a bottle
1 bottle available

Vogue Musigny Label Burghound:
Still extremely primary with very sappy pinot fruit, notes of rosemary and black cherries, anise and clove with earthy flavors and a pronounced minerality. This is not especially dense and the tannins are quite fine with a certain dusty aspect to them. That said, this is a very powerful wine with incredible length and perfect balance which should live for a very long time. Multiple and consistent notes. 94 Points

Vinous, Stephen Tanzer:
Very good deep red-ruby. Black cherry, boysenberry, rose petal, licorice, minerals, shoe polish, mint and white pepper on the nose. Extremely unyielding today in the middle palate, and dominated by its rather large structure. Exotic hints of citrus fruit keep the flavors bright and sharp. Then extremely long and authoritative on the back end. A wine of great potential, but it's all nose and finish today. May ultimately merit a considerably higher score. 94+ Points
Domaine Jean Grivot Echezeaux Grand Cru 2009
$475.00 a bottle
3 bottles available

Grivot Echezeaux label Vinous, Antonio Galloni: The 2009 Echézeaux is pure silk. Black cherries, spices, licorice and tar are all woven together in a fabric of nearly indescribable elegance. All the elements fall into place as the Echézeaux captivates both the intellectual and hedonistic senses. This is a wine that impresses for its understated elegance. Readers won't fine the drive of the Clos de Vougeot or the structure of the Richebourg. Instead, the Echézeaux possesses stunning textural finesse and phenomenal balance. (Drink between 2019-2039). 95 Points

Burghound: An exuberantly spicy nose of wonderfully seductive black fruit liqueur aromas leads to rich, suave, pure and dense flavors that are a highly beguiling blend of finesse and power, all wrapped in a robust yet finely detailed finish of stunning length. This is one of the very best examples of the appellation in 2009.
(Drink starting 2024). 95 Points

Domaine Jean Grivot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 1998
$275.00 a bottle
6 bottles available

Grivot Vougeot label Burghound: As young Clos de Vougeot often is, this wine is a good deal less generous now than the '98 Echézeaux and is borderline austere yet there is plenty of solid material beneath the sober veneer. There is good sappy pinot extract with big, heavily soil inflected flavors and good length. A big wine needing 10 to 12 years to resolve its structure but it should amply reward the patient. 92 Points

Domaine Bertagna Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2002
$235.00 a bottle
4 bottles available

Burghound:
In contrast to a typical young Clos de Vougeot, this is opulent, expressive and exuberant followed by black fruit, mocha and earth nuanced flavors of striking size, weight, intensity and power. The finish however is reserved, slightly austere and brooding. This too has enormous potential and truly exceptional depth crafted in a very ripe style. 92 Points

Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts 2009
$295.00 a bottle
6 bottles available

Grivot Beaux Monts label DecanterGood colour. Still quite closed on the nose. But a lot of depth here. Fullish body. Quite firm and youthful. A bit of tannin sticks out. Rich and energetic. Lots of dimension. Very fine.
(Drink starting 2021). 95 Points

Vinous, Antonio Galloni: The 2009 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts is fabulous. Waves of fruit jump from the glass. The Beaux-Monts impresses for its textural depth and richness. There is an intense minerality to the fruit that gives the wine much of its power. The Beaux-Monts is firing on all cylinders today. A crescendo of fruit saturates the palate on the finish. This is another headspinning 2009 from Grivot.
(Drink between 2017-2029). 94+ Points

Bichot Lavaux Label
Albert Bichot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux-St-Jacques 2014
12 bottles available
Located next to Clos St-Jacques this is one of Gevrey's top 1er Crus producing "cool" wines of style and elegance.
Wine Enthusiast - Roger VossThis rich wine is dense with dark tannins and concentrated structure. The vineyard, with cool winds from the valley behind, gives wines that demand aging with their tannins and fragrant fruit. The aftertaste is full of promise. Drink after 2022. 94 Points

Burghound:
A completely different aromatic profile is present here with its dark currant, humus, plum and animale scents. The earthy, punchy and detailed flavors possess solid mid-palate richness before culminating in a linear, austere, stony and muscular finale. This is a classically styled LSJ and worth checking out. 2022+. 92 Points
Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report"Beautifully perfumed nose, exquisitely perfumed over deeper fruit. Large-scaled, faintly saline, a little tannin at the base but also supple, energetic and engagingly complex. What a lovely wine...Mouth watering, almost mouth staining flavour. A bigger, slightly broader wine than the Vosne (1er Cru Malconsorts), and today, maybe better!
