"This is a beautifully balanced Echézeaux, understated but full of substance, from vines planted in 1902, 1940 and 1945."

Domaine Bruno Desaunay-Bissey is a name that is familar to many Burgundy drinkers in Australia.

The family own parcels of very old vines in and around Vosne-Romanee. Since 2007 Bruno has not used herbicides or pesticides, all the soil being tilled. Bruno's winemaking is very terroir-expressive, doing short pre-fermentation maceration, using indigenous yeasts, and not too much extraction. Barrel-aging is about 1/3 new except for more with the Grands Crus. The wines are neither fined nor filtered. The result is beautifully balanced, perfumed, textured, complex, lingering Burgundies.

I paid my first visit to the domaine last year. I was very impressed with what I tasted.

Desaunay-Bissey own just 0.15 hectares of Echezeaux Grand Cru spread between the climats Les Champs Traversins and Les Quartiers de Nuits. The later is an unusual appellation as when you look at a map it is appears that it should be part of the Clos Vougeot climat Petit Maupertui except that it has been otherwise removed and left outside the Clos' wall. Politics?

The domaine's Echezeaux vines are mostly over 110 years of age and the wine is the jewel in their crown.

We have 24 bottles available. We offer them at a most attractive price, especially as they are from the great 2015 vintage.

desaunay-bissey echezeaux Wine Advocate, James Kelley: The 2015 Echézeaux Grand Cru is superb, wafting from the glass with a youthful bouquet of red cherry, raspberry, espresso, lapsang tea, game bird, licorice and wood smoke. On the palate, the wine is broad, full-bodied and multidimensional, with juicy acids, velvety tannins and a long, sappy finish. This is a beautifully balanced Echézeaux, understated but full of substance, from vines planted in 1902, 1940 and 1945. 94 Points
This was my first encounter with the wines of Domaine Bruno Desaunay-Bissey, which exploits an interesting portfolio of old-vine parcels, and avoids excesses of new oak and extraction. The wines are very true to their appellations, with creamy old-vine concentration and excellent balance. A visit here will be high on my agenda during my next visit to Burgundy.
The wine is not on our website. Orders may also be placed by email to luke@grandmillesime.com.au or by phone.
