Almost Gone! Domaine des Chezeaux 2016 Pre Arrival Offer - Identical Wines to Laurent Ponsot but

Domaine des Chezeaux 2016 PA Header
Have you been thinking bout the Domaine des Chezeaux 2016's?
They are almost gone so please do not delay
Domaine des Chézeaux owns nearly 60% of Griotte-Chambertin (1.57 hectares) as well as vines in Clos St-Denis, Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Charmes, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St-Jacques and Cazetiers and Gevrey villages.

While Domaine des Chézeaux sells wine under its own label, it does not work the vines or make the wines. The Griottes-Chambertin, Clos St. Denis, Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Charmes have all been produced by Laurent Ponsot under a metayage arrangement. Ponsot leases the vines and one third of the finished wine is given to Chezeaux as payment.

The Domaine des Chezeaux wines are identical to those bottled under the Ponsot label (simply one third of the bottled wines are returned to Chezeaux). Only the label design is different! (Oh, and the price - the Domaine des Chezeaux labeled wine are half the price!).

If you are a fan of Domaine des Chezeaux or Ponsot wines you should not miss today's offer for Domaine de Chezeaux. Quantities produced in 2016 were a fraction of normal due to the frost. The Chambertin has sold old and stocks of the other three cuvees are very low.

Chezeaux Griottes
John Gilman "View from the Cellar":
Very much in its customary style, offering up a ripe and sappy nose of black cherries, plums, chocolate, roasted meats, a fine base of soil, a touch of mustard seed and plenty of upper register smokiness. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, powerful and opulent in personality, with a sappy core, fine-grained tannins and excellent length and grip on the long, tangy and beautifully balanced finish. A classic Griotte in the making. 2031-2080. 95+ Points
Airy and cool aromas are comprised by notes of black cherry, raspberry, spice and newly turned earth. There is flat out superb intensity to the mineral-driven and sleekly muscular middle weight plus flavors that possess a more sophisticated mouthfeel before concluding in a dusty, serious, palate coating and ultra-saline finish that goes on and on. Note however that this beauty of a Griotte is markedly firm and will not be an especially inviting early drinker. (Drink starting 2033). 92-95 Points

Chezeaux Denis Label Burghound:
As was often the case when this wine was part of the Domaine Ponsot portfolio, it possesses the most complex nose in the range with a gorgeous breadth of elements that include plenty of spice, earth, floral and Asian-style tea, all of which add interest to the liqueur-like dark berry scents. There is impressive density to the sappy middle weight plus flavors thanks to the copious level of dry extract that mostly, if not completely, buffers the very firm tannic spine supporting and shaping the hugely long finish. I very much like the silky mid-palate mouthfeel though this does not lack for power and punch on the imposingly structured finale. Patience. (Drink starting 2036). 93-95 Points

John Gilman "View from the Cellar": The wine is deep, pure and sappy, offering up scents of black cherries, plums, gamebird, chocolate, a fine base of soil tones and a smoky top note. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nascently complex, with a plush core of fruit, fine focusand grip and a long, well-balanced and seamlessly tannic finish. Fine juice. 2026-2060. 93 Points
