Darons 2015 Australia Day Header
Just the wine for everyday drinking!
Once a source only for cheap bulk wine, Languedoc is now proving its ability to make wonderful terroir wines at very reasonable prices. The region is thriving with so many exciting wine producers you hardly know where to turn.

The wines of the Languedoc have a lot in common with their relatives from the southern Rhone. Traditional Rhone varieties like Syrah, Mourvedre, Grenache and Carignan are favoured by those with an eye to quality.

Today we present an outstanding Languedoc red at a super Australia Day Weekend price. Les Darons rouge is available at $229.00 a Case, delivered. That works out at $19.08 a bottle - super buying for a "downright sexy" wine rated 91-93 by Rhone guru Jeb Dunnuck. And might I add that doesn't buy you much when it comes to Aussie wines.

Jeb Dunnick, erobertparker.com What looks like another great vintage here, the 2015 AOP Languedoc les Darons is made from 75% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 5% Carignan; grapes were completely destemmed, and fermented and aged all in concrete tanks. It sees absolutely no oak whatsoever. This medium to full-bodied, plump, rounded, downright sexy 2015 has lots of blueberry, violets, and jammy black cherry aromas and flavors; it has terrific purity of fruit, good acidity and an overriding sense of elegance. If it came from a more prestigious appellation in the southern Rhone, it would go for three times the price. 91-93 Points

Solitude Barberini Label
Domaine de la Solitude Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Barberini Rouge 2015
Save 30%
Domaine de la Solitude produce some of the Southern Rhone's most interesting and highly rated wines.
Cuvee Barberini was the domaine's first prestige cuvee and is named after the forefather Francois Barberini, the first in the line, and Maffeo Barberini who became Pope Urbain VIII. The wine is only produced in top vintages when around 3000 bottles are made. The first vintage was 1999.

Wine Spectator: This drips with raspberry, cassis and plum fruit flavors, with a remarkably silky feel throughout. Alluring black tea and incense notes hang in the background, and there's an element of roasted apple wood as well. The fruit blazes through the finish. Best from 2020 through 2035. 95 Points
International Wine Report:
The 2015 'Cuvée Barberini' opens to simply gorgeous aromas of dark cherries, black raspberries and dark plums which are woven together with spices, florals, bittersweet chocolate shavings and hints of savory nuances all taking shape. On the palate this is full-bodied and beautifully concentrated with remarkable overall depth and balance. Layers of ripe dark fruits continue to resonate throughout and leave a lasting impression on the long, polished finish. This is a total beauty now and should only continue to impress as it evolves over the next decade and beyond. (Best 2020-2034). 94 Points
