Cuvee Barberini Blanc and Rouge 2015 - last bottles at a 30% discount

Domaine de la Solitude produce some of the Southern Rhone's most interesting and highly rated wines.

Cuvee Barberini was the domaine's first prestige cuvee and is named after the forefather Francois Barberini, the first in the line, and Maffeo Barberini who became Pope Urbain VIII. The wine is only produced in top vintages when around 3000 bottles are made. The first vintage was 1999.
We have small quantities of the Cuvee Barberini Blanc and Rouge from 2015 in stock.

Vinous - Josh Raynolds:
Limpid yellow. Potent, mineral-laced aromas of tangerine, pear nectar, peach and white flowers, plus a subtle honey flourish. Juicy and broad on the palate, offering intense orchard fruit and citrus marmalade flavors complemented by a refreshing mineral note. Finishes with very good clarity and powerful thrust, leaving pear nectar and chamomile notes behind.
92 Points

Wine Advocate - Jeb Dunnuck:
A bigger, richer wine that has more noticeable oak, the tiny production 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc Cuvee Barberini (80% Roussanne and 20% Clairette, aged in new oak) is tight and backwards at present, and needs a year in bottle to really show its potential. Nevertheless, it offers serious notes of white peach, sautéed apples, brioche and spice, with medium to full-bodied richness and juicy acidity. It's a terrific white that will age gracefully. 91+ Points

Wine Spectator: This drips with raspberry, cassis and plum fruit flavors, with a remarkably silky feel throughout. Alluring black tea and incense notes hang in the background, and there's an element of roasted apple wood as well. The fruit blazes through the finish. Best from 2020 through 2035. 95 Points

International Wine Report:
The 2015 'Cuvée Barberini' opens to simply gorgeous aromas of dark cherries, black raspberries and dark plums which are woven together with spices, florals, bittersweet chocolate shavings and hints of savory nuances all taking shape. On the palate this is full-bodied and beautifully concentrated with remarkable overall depth and balance. Layers of ripe dark fruits continue to resonate throughout and leave a lasting impression on the long, polished finish. This is a total beauty now and should only continue to impress as it evolves over the next decade and beyond. (Best 2020-2034). 94 Points

Noval Nacional 1997

Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage Port 1997

Produced in tiny quantities, from a single 2.5 hectare vineyard, of gnarly, old, ungrafted vines on the Estate, Quinta do Noval's Nacional is the most revered and most collectable Port of them all. This patch of vines consistently produces a sublime wine, which is widely considered to be the pinnacle of Vintage Port, indeed it is one of the great wines of the world. Only years of unqualified excellence and typicity are considered worthy of declaration.
We have one bottle of the outstanding 1997 in stock.
Jancis Robinson: Blackish very deep crimson with a crimson rim. Seems more evolved on the nose than the regular 1997 and with masses of rich sweet fruit in the forefront although the tannins and the alcohol slightly impose on the finish. Very beguiling and dramatic. It would be very tempting to drink this now but the second half of the tasting experience suggests one should keep it really quite a while! (Drink between 2020-2070). 20/20

World of Fine Wine:
Deep, opaque, thin, purple rim; plump but closed and not giving much away now on the nose, dark-chocolate concentration underneath; rich and voluptuous, very big for the vintage, with real depth and intensity, bittersweet chocolate (85% cocoa solids!), full, ripe, firm tannins, big and broad, leading to a peacock's tail of a finish. A big "wow" of a wine here that needs at least 15 years before it is ready. 20/20
Neal Martin, Robert Parker:
The Quinta Do Noval Nacional 1997 has a fragrant bouquet that boasts more delineation than the Vintage Noval, although it demonstrates approximately the same degree of vigour. There is a fine mineral component on the nose with macerated dark cherries, hoisin, cigar box and dried fig that seem to multiply exponentially with vigor. The palate is elegant on the entry with supple rounded tannins, well-judged acidity and purity, building gently in the mouth from its understated entry towards its peacock tail of mulberry, clove and raisin towards the finish. This is a step up from the 1994 Nacional, though if you want to split hairs, it does not possess the mind-boggling complexity of later vintages. However, it does purr with class. Drink now-2045. 96 Points
