In the late 1930's, Paul Misset, Philippe Cheron's grandfather, acquired parcels of vines in the Vougeot and Nuits Saint Georges communes. Not being a wine-grower, he entrusted their management to tenant wine growers in Vosne-Romanée. Starting with these original parcels, Paul Misset's grandchildren, two generations later, have built up a wine domaine which today covers 5 hectares, spread over the Nuits Saint Georges, Vosne Romanée, Chambolle Musigny and Clos de Vougeot appellations.

The domaine's winery and cellars are located in the historical centre of Nuits Saint Georges. The vaulted 19th century cellars allow the wines to be aged in perfect conditions and the modern, efficient winery has recently been totally refurbished.

After working as technical director at Domaine Jean-Claude Belland in Santenay, Philippe Cheron took over the family estate in 2011. A trained engineer, he studied at the wine university in Suze la Rousse before gaining important experience making wine in the Rhône valley and then Burgundy. To round off this experience, he also took an agricultural training course at the Lycée Viticole in Beaune.
I first tasted at the "new' domaine two years ago. Whilst the estate is small the vineyard holdings are quite lovely with appellations in Gevrey, Vosne and Chambolle as well as the Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot.

Amongst a super range of wines was an outstanding Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers 2016. Many of you will have heard the story of how I wished to buy all of the wine. Without success. We did however purchase 50% of the cuvee with the other 50% being sold in France. No other bottles were shipped internationally. If you have some you can certainly smile.
The wine was a complete sellout and I have had nothing but glowing reports from those who have opened a bottle.

Overnight we received information about the 2017's from Domaine Philippe Cheron. Today, we feature the new vintage of Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Aux Murgers - the 2017.
Instead of the usual 15% Pre Arrival Discount we're giving you the opportunity to secure some of the 2017 today at a 25% Pre Arrival Discount.

Vosne-Romanee Lunch Ryne Header
Let's Drink Vosne-Romanee! Lunch at Ryne. Sunday 3 February 2019

What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon? 12 Different Vosne-Romanee and a 4-course menu...
We all love Vosne-Romanee - it's Burgundy's top red wine commune. To kick start 2019 we have a terrific Sunday lunch planned at Ryne featuring 12 different Vosne-Romanee.

We've split the wines into three brackets starting with a bracket of 4 Villages Vosne-Romanee. These will allow you to hone the palate and get an idea of the style of Vosne-Romanee.

We'll then move on to the next bracket featuring 4 lieux-dits. Here the varying terroirs of Vosne-Romanee can be explored with wines from all corners of the Vosne compass.

To finish we have an intriguing Premier Cru bracket starting with the famous Les Suchots and concluding with 3 different Les Beaux Monts, one of my favourite vineyards. There's a nice little menage a trois here between maker and vintage.

We have 6 wines from each of the 2016 and 2015 vintages. They are both great - it is a matter of style as to which you prefer. This is a great opportunity to taste and compare.
The lunch will be at Ryne. Chef Donovan Cooke will prepare a matching 4-course menu.

Date: Sunday 3 February 2019
Time: 12.30pm
Venue: Ryne, 203 St Georges Rd, Fitzroy North 3065
Cost: $199.00 per person
