In the past it was not common to describe Pommard as stylish. The wines were big, meaty and tannic. However, just as has occured in Aloxe-Corton, many makers of Pommard have found their mojo and are making wines that are fine and simply more delicious.
One of these is Domaine Launay-Horiot. This is a very exciting new domaine with some wonderful vineyard holdings. To read the interesting backgound click here.
To end the week I have a very special offer on the Pommard 1er Cru Les Chaponnieres 2015. This small vineyard (2.87 hectares) lies below Les Rugiens Bas. Jasper Morris MW says it is "an excellent site".
Burghound is a big fan of both the maker and the wine. He says "Because this is only Launay's second commercialized vintage (the '11s, '12s and '13s were all sold off), it's difficult to know whether the superb quality I found in 2015 is attributed to beginner's luck or whether he is simply a gifted winemaker. Either way, these are some of the best wines for their levels that I tasted and they're highly recommended."

This Premier Cru Pommard is Burghound's equal second highest Pommard of the 2015 vintage. Only Launay-Horiot's Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens-Bas scores higher with 94 Points. These wines are up there with, and typically more highly rated than, de Montille, de Courcel, Lafarge etc.

This offer is only for paid orders received before 5pm today. We only have 69 bottles available so get your order in quickly and save $87.00 a bottle on this terrific wine from the great 2015 vintage. Pop a case in the cellar and drink over the next 20 years!

Burghound: There is even better freshness to the plum liqueur, warm earth and forest floor-nuanced aromas. The rich, full-bodied and muscular flavors brim with dry extract that completely coats the palate on the powerful and firm but not really austere finale. This is surprisingly well-detailed given how rich and concentrated it is and this should amply reward extended cellaring yet it should also be reasonably approachable young. A Sweet Spot Wine. (Start Drinking 2025). 93 Points

DRC La Tache 2
DRC Corton Label

Two bottles of DRC from 2015
From the cellar of a private client we offer a bottle each of the 2015 DRC La Tache and Corton.
Worldwide demand for these wines is crazy. The prices my client wants are way below what the wines would cost if purchased overseas. Whether you buy them to drink or as an investment they are great buying. Condition is perfect.

La Tache Grand Cru 2015 $6500.00
Burghound:
As is often the case in its youth, this easily possesses the most aromatic breadth of any wine in the range with an utterly kaleidoscopic nose that incorporates notes of Asian spice box elements, rose petal, lavender, lilac, orange pekoe tea and sandalwood. There is superb richness to the powerfully constituted flavors that possess outstanding delineation and intensity while displaying perhaps even more minerality than usual, all wrapped in a mildly warm finish that slowly fans out as it sits on the palate. This is one classy wine that manages to do what only the greatest of burgundies can, which is to wow you with its power without weight mouth palate impression. And if all of this weren't enough, the refinement and poise here are nothing short of riveting. While I am very careful when it comes to proclaiming that such and such a vintage of La Tâche will go down as one of the all-time greats, the 2015 version appears to have the potential to be one of them. Time will of course be the final arbiter but the underlying material is so good it's difficult to be less than super-enthusiastic. (Drink starting 2040). 98 Points

Corton Grand Cru 2015 $2250.00
Burghound:
A ripe but reasonably fresh array mixes both red currant and dark berry aromas that are liberally laced with notes of various floral, sauvage and earth nuances. There is first-rate volume and power to the serious, intense and overtly muscular big-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the robust, moderately rustic and impressively long finish. To my way of viewing the progression made by this wine since the first vintage under the Domaine's auspices in 2009, this is beginning to resemble a true Corton. I would expect that as the different system of viticulture and replanting to higher quality vines begins to have their inevitable effects that this will continue to improve. Note that while this is certainly a big and structured wine, it's not so youthfully backward that it won't be approachable relatively young, at least in the context of what is typical for a classic Corton. (Drink starting 2027). 93 Points
