Almost Gone for the second time! An incredible 96 Points from Gilbert and Gaillard! A Grand Cru

Coste-Caumartin Boucherottes 2 header
A little more stock. 96 Points from Gilbert and Gaillard. I told you it was seriously good!

What a stunning wine! Our first shipment sold out a week or two after we unpacked the container. Soon after the wine arrived numerous clients tasted and it and were so impressed they asked if we could supply more.
We checked with the domaine and they confirmed they had a little more available. We purchased it all. A few weeks down the track and this second allocation has almost sold out too.
If you didn't buy some first time around, or want to top up your stocks, please act very quickly.
It is a brilliant wine at a fantastic price.
The background....

On a site dating back to the time of the Great Dukes of Burgundy Domaine Coste-Caumartin has a rich history. The buildings go back to 1610 and the well in the forecourt (which appears on their label) is dated 1641 - possibly the year that building was completed.

The Coste-Caumartin family "moved-in" in 1793 at the height of the French Revolution. Over the centuries the domaine has expanded to 12 hectares with its major holdings in the commune of Pommard.

The domaine's finest vineyard is their monopole Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Boucherottes. It has been in the family since 1908. The vineyard has always been a jewel of the village and 500 years ago it was part of the Royal Domain. This vineyard lies on the Beaune border and is largely surrounded by Pommard 1er Cru Les Petits Epenots to the south and Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches to the north. It is, in effect, a clos of Petits Epenots.

Both Les Epenots and Les Rugiens have applied to the INAO for elevation to Grand Cru status. You can read more here.

We offer the second shipment of the wonderful Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Boucherottes Monopole 2016 at our original 25% Pre Arrival discount. Grand quality at just $128.50. Simply super!

Coste-Caumartin Boucherottes labelGilbert and Gaillard: A garnet color with ruby highlights. Racy nose, floral presence with greedy Morello cherry. The palate seduces by its scale, its elegance, its fullness. One praises to the skies for its fruit, its floral dimension, its generous tannic finish. A 2016 with an entire character. 96 Points (Huge!)

Darren Harris:
Deep purple-red. Intense nose of cool black fruits - mostly cherries - and huge minerality. Refined and cool. Tight, very tight. The super low cropping adds layer upon layer on a textured palate culminating in an amazing peacock's tail and a very long stony finish. The silky tannins are extremely fine and coated by the velvety fruit. The domaine sets out to make this wine as a Grand Cru with extremely low cropping and beautiful handling. They succeed admirably. I don't think I have ever tasted a Pommard quite like this. It reminds me of a theoretical blend of Corton Clos du Roi, Clos Vougeot and Clos de la Roche with each coming to the fore as the wine sits in the glass. It is a sensual wine and is very special indeed. Forget your pre-conceived idea of Pommard. This is a super wine of Grand Cru quality. Awesome!

Gaunous Francois Grands Epenots label

Domaine Francois Gaunoux Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots 1999

Direct from the domaine's cellars!

For years now, Premier Cru "Les Grands Epenots" has been evaluated for Grand Cru promotion by the INAO (France's authority for wine designations) and many Burgundy producers will tell you it's only a matter of time until it happens. This prized site produces some of the greatest Pinot Noir in all of Côte de Beaune.

Even if promotion doesn't come, you're still getting Grand Cru quality without the associated price. François Gaunoux isn't some novice either; his wines are honest, tried-and-true, revered. Now an octogenarian, he's been working in the vines since the age of 15. Since taking over for his father many decades ago, François has tracked down and purchased parcels in Côte de Beaune's finest sites, never once buying grapes or leasing land.

Eighty-something François Gaunoux is a Burgundy fixture. His daughter, Claudine, has worked alongside him since 2000, crafting traditionally styled reds and whites from estate-owned vines in the Côte de Beaune. Domaine Gaunoux has been passed down for generations, maintaining ultra-traditional methods in both vineyard and cellar, farming and crafting everything by hand. Ironically, François has spearheaded the implementation of modern techniques while Claudine has stuck to their historically traditional approach.

Today we are delighted to present the jewel in the domaine's cellar - the Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots from the stunning 1999 vintage. Even at nearly 20 years of age this wine, direct from the domaines cellars, is youthful. I am sure there is another 20+ years ahead of it.
Instead of the usual 15% Pre Arrival Discount we present the wine at a 25% Pre Arrival Discount. This is a serious 1999 for the cellar at a price seldom seen. Grab some bottles whilst it is still available.

Bill Nanson - The Burgundy Report: A very, very interesting mix of herbs and complex fruits. Mouth-filling, plenty of (balanced) tannin. Now there's a small burst of fruit flavour. Good length - I like this a lot.

Landed Price $235.00
Pre Arrival Price $175.00
