Chablis lovers - don't miss this!

We had a great initial response to out offer for Dampt's Petit Chablis 2016. If you wish to take advantage of our offer you need to get your order in soon!

The 2016 vintage is in a very similar mould to the great 2014 vintage. The wines are fresh and mineral without the more exotic characters often shown in 2015. It is another classic vintage and if you were a fan of 2014 (and who wasn't) you should stock up on the 2016's.
Vignobles Dampt produce two Petit Chablis: Elegance which is self explanatory and Vieilles Vignes. Both are excellent but it was the Vieilles Vignes that blew me away at the Grands Jours de Bourgogne Chablis Tasting.

Petit Chablis is not lesser Chablis. It was a appellation created in 1944 to encompass new sites outside the original borders. The vineyards are typically high on the slopes with mostly Portlandian soil with some Kimmeridgian mixed through. The grapes enjoy these higher elevations producing more elegant wines.
However, add in old vines and Petit Chablis really starts to sing. Those of you who have tasted the iconic L and C Poitout Petit Chablis Franc de Pied L'Inextinct will know what I mean.
Dampt's Vieilles Vignes vineyards are located near Villy in the north of the appellation. The vine age is around 70 years and not surprisingly the cropping level is low. This shows in the wine.
The wine looks for all intents and purposes like Chablis proper - and I would say it is superior to many Premier Crus I tasted today. It is a special wine and an absolute bargain.
When you buy by the case the wine is just $29.99 a bottle. I doubt you can find a better Chardonnay anywhere at this price. Pop a case in the cellar and drink over the next five years.

Darren Harris: Classic Chablis nose with minerals and citrus (plenty of this in the 2016 vintage). The palate is intense and textured but not exotic. Quite the opposite in fact. The old vines add the mouth feel and the vintage supplies the acid drive. There is minerality in spades. Easily Chablis Villages quality but I think even better. It would have beaten many a Premier Cru in a taste-off today.

I have been hoping to find a super quality and affordable white from Burgundy with the sellout of the early Jomain Bourgogne Blanc 2016 (although we now have the 2017 Pre Arrival). To find it first day of tasting is a great windfall.

La Chablisienne Chablis Montee de Tonnerre 2014 MAGNUMS
6 available
I'm always on the lookout for interesting Burgundies and recently I purchased a small parcel of top wines from one of my French contacts. Included were some MAGNUMS of La Chablisienne Montee de Tonnerre 2014. La Chablisienne have been producing Chablis since 1923 and have a fine reputation for classically styled wines.
Montee de Tonnerre is the top Premier Cru of Chablis and 2014 is a simply wonderful vintage.
In Magnum this is certainly one for the cellar.
Roger Voss, The Wine Enthusiast: Situated next to the Grand Cru vineyards, this Premier Cru has produced a rich, concentrated and beautifully dense wine. Its rich, creamy texture is enhanced by bright acidity and underlying power. Touches wood aging show through in its spiciness. Drink from 2019. 93 Points
Tim Atkin MW
La Chablisienne's holdings in this top Premier Cru are extensive, covering three of the four lieux-dits. This is another lovely wine from one of France's best co-operatives, a Chablis to cellar for a few years. Focused, restrained and pithy, with gunflint and wood smoke aromas and a complex, saline finish. 2017-26. 94 Points
Landed Price $199.95
Pre Arrival Price $149.95
