Vosne-Romanee 1er Crus and more at a 25% Pre Arrival Discount
In April this year I made my first visit to Domaine Bruno Desaunay-Bissey. The domaine had been imported into Australia some years ago but I had not had the opportunity to taste any recent vintages.

At the domaine I was offered the range of 2016's plus a selection of back vintages to taste. I was amazed at how the domaine has developed. The 2016's (what there were of them anyway) were universally exceptional with really deep colours and vibrant, fresh fruit. Even the Bourgogne was a top wine.

Unfortunately, the domaine suffered badly in the frost of 2016. Quantities produced are small and there was no Chambolle-Musigny, Echezeaux or Grands Echezeaux at all! That's got to be tough on your cash flow!

Today I present the four cuvees in my allocation. The two Vosne-Romanee 1er Crus are knockouts. it is important to note that most of the cuvees here are Vielles Vignes with some very old vines producing wines with a superb, creamy intensity.
We offer all wines at an introductory 25% Pre Arrival Discount.
Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts 2016
Landed Price $199.95
Pre Arrival Price $149.95
desaunay-bissey beaux monts label
Les Beaux Monts is located alongside the Grand Cru Echezeaux and 1er Cru Les Suchots. It can produce exceptionally fine wines.

Darren Harris: Vines planted in 1959. Same deep colour as Les Rouges. A little more on the nose, intense and very pure with cool dark fruits, rose petal and spice. Beautiful fruit! Lovely texture (old vines) with perfect fruit weight and a long, fresh and focused finish. Really very special. This is going to be great with a few years in the cellar.

Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Rouges 2016
Landed Price $189.95
Pre Arrival Price $142.50

desaunay-bissey vosne rouges label The lowest part of Les Rouges is basically an extension of the Grand Cru Echezeaux. The soil is full of tiny pebbles and the high elevation means the grapes take longer to ripen.

Darren Harris: Vines planted in 1957. Purple and deep on the rim, bright centre. Served after the Vosne-Romanee Villages. Gorgeous nose with aromatic, sweet, juicy fruit on the nose. Black cherries, florals, just a hint of oak. Minerals and spice. This is much more layered with an appealing vitality. Finishes long with lifted spicy notes and cool, refined tannins. Very smart indeed.

Gevrey-Chambertin 2016
Landed Price $123.95
Pre Arrival Price $92.95

desaunay-bissey gevrey label Darren Harris: Very deep purple. Dark fruits with mineral earth notes and some elegant florals. Sappy on the palate with quite a savoury character. This has good weight and will drink well early, although 5 years in the cellar will add complexity. Gevrey-Chambertin from a Vosne-Romanee domaine.

Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2016
Landed Price $57.95
Pre Arrival Price $43.50

desaunay-bissey bourgogne label cropped Darren Harris: From grapes grown in Flagey between Vosne-Romanee and Vougeot. Medium colour. Juicy Vosne-Romanee style nose with sappy fruit and pleasing freshness. Light on its feet, aromatic and charming. Why would you drink Bourgogne from up in the hills when you can have this?

Drouhin-Laroze Closeau label
Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Au Closeau 2015
10 bottles available

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Au Closeau is a tiny Premier of just 0.53 hectares, of which 0.44 hectares belong to Domaine Drouhin-Laroze. The vineyard is well situated lying just below the Grand Cru Mazis-Chambertin. Their vines were planted in 1943 making this a true Vieilles Vignes cuvee, although it does not state that on the label.
Drouhin-Laroze are the only producer to bottle this appellation and we have 10 bottles of the rare and well reviewed 2015 in stock. It would be an interesting wine to serve to other Burgundy friends as few would have tasted it.
Tim Atkin MW: Au Closeau is a Drouhin-Laroze monopoly on the Morey-St-Denis side of Gevrey located just below Mazis-Chambertin. It's a glossy, perfumed, eminently drinkable red showing the stylish oak integration that's part of the new approach at the domaine. Rich, exotic, yet underpinned by acidity and tannins. 2022-29.

Bertagna Denis Label

Domaine Bertagna Clos St-Denis Grand Cru 2002
6 bottles available
Domaine Bertagna's top wine is their Clos St-Denis. It is a wine with deep, dark fruits and exotic spices along with a citric tang that makes Clos St-Denis unique.
From a private cellar we have 6 bottles of their 2002 Clos St-Denis available. We wines have been professionally cellared since release and the bottles are in superb condition. This is a great opportunity to procure a Grand Cru that is now in its drinking window. Burghound says "...this is an absolutely stunning wine".

Vinous, Stephen Tanzer: Good red-ruby. Perfumed, highly nuanced nose combines wild red and black berries, faded rose, mocha, underbrush and subtle earth tones. Very suave on entry, then silky and spicy in the middle. Lush and smooth but light on its feet and impeccably balanced. Most impressive on the long, rising finish, which features very fine tannins and sappy red berry flavors. 93 Points

Burghound: Rich, even extravagant and exotic black fruit leads to round, supple, forward and generous flavors with excellent richness and fine detail. The superbly long finish is impressive for its sheer depth and wonderful complexity and as many of the best '02s reveal, the tannins here are extremely fine. In sum, this is an absolutely stunning wine with serious potential.
JancisRobinson: Cask sample.Very sumptuous nose - seductively perfumed. Round and gorgeous even now! Liquorously delicious. Sweet and round with tannins completely smothered. 18.5
