A wonderful address for lovers of Gevrey-Chambertin

Marchand-Grillot has become both a personal favourite of mine and of our clients. The domaine has a wonderful array of vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin. In 2016 the domaine lost around 50% of their potential production yet they have managed to produce all cuvees except for the Gevrey-Chambertin En Jouise.
Jacques Marchand is the seventh generation of his family to be involved in wine. Located in Gevrey-Chambertin this domaine owns an exciting range of vineyards. Their 9 hectares are spread across 47 different plots! In addition to Premier and Grand Cru holdings the domaine is one the few to bottle a selection of lieu-dits. These wines are particularly exciting as today the general practice is to blend these vineyards into a generic wine.

Don't miss the Gevrey lieut-dits or the rare and very special Ruchottes-Chambertin. The domaine owns a minute 0.08 of a hectare which makes just a single barrel! All wines are available at a 15% discount today. Mix and match as you please.

Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Velle 2016
Normally $144.50
Special $122.50

marchand-grillot Au velle label
Darren Harris: Nose of dark fruits, marzipan, minerals and coconut. Cool. Opens in the glass to display a complex palate with fresh juice and a tight, restrained power. Always light on its feet the 2016 Au Velle displays the all the expected character of this well-sited vineyard (alongside the 1er Cru Les Cazetiers and Les Champeaux).

Gevrey-Chambertin En Songe 2016
Normally $144.50
Special $122.50

marchand-grillot en songe label
Darren Harris: A little more aromatic and open than Aux Velle with a classic Gevrey nose of cherry, raspberry and some mineral earth. The palate has a roundness and gentle plushness with excellent extract before firming up on the finish.

Gevrey-Chambertin En Creot 2016
Normally $152.95
Special $129.95

marchand-grillot creot label
Darren Harris: From the Brochon side. Red with a hint of garnet. This is the darkest and deepest of the three regular lieu-dits in 2016. There are notes of raspberry and dark chocolate with a rich and juicy fresh palate that is so 2016. There is a fine line of acid through the wine. Powerful and intense.

Gevrey-Chambertin Champerrier Vigne Centenaire 2016
Normally $199.50
Special $169.50

Marchand-Grillot Champerrier label Darren Harris: On the same contour as Chambertin, Clos de Beze and Mazis-Chambertin. 100% whole bunch. This cuvee is made from the domaine's oldest vines - planted in 1903 - hence the name Vigne Centenaire. Deep red. An expressive nose of layered, creamy, red-black fruits. There are raspberries and blackberries, floral notes and some liquoice. The palate caresses with a rich roundness whilst remaining fresh and focused. A wine of texture and always one of my favourites here. One cannot underestimate the character of very old, low cropped vines.

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru La Perriere 2016
Normally $220.95
Special $187.50

marchand-grillot perrier label Darren Harris: Located below Mazis-Chambertin Marchand-Grillot's Perrieres always sings of its terroir. We have layered flavours of cherries and plums but most of all a cool stonyness on the nose. The palate is zippy, fresh and focused with deep flavours and a sense of relative lightness. The tannins are very fine and are coated by the fruit. A tremendous wine in 2016.

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petit Chapelle 2016
Normally $263.50
Special $224.00

marchand-grillot petit chapelle label Darren Harris: Fuller on the nose than the Perrieres with red cherries, milk chocolate and spice. Rounder on the palate with a more generous mouth-feel. Silky and rich with the tannins seemingly coated by more of that creamy chocolate-berry character. Seductive!

Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2016
Normally $689.95
Special $586.50
Only 12 bottles left

Marchand-Grillot Ruchottes Label Darren Harris: Nose of red-black fruits, minerals and a little new oak spice. The multitude of layers begins draw you in, makes you think. The palate is silky, complex and beguiling - a continuation of the nose. The fruit is fresh, elegant and concentrated, culminating with a peacock's tail as the wine opens up. Very stylish indeed. A lovely example from this fine Grand Cru vineyard. Only 300 bottles produced.
Did you know that Marchand-Grillot were selected by UNESCO to supply the wines of Gevrey-Chambertin for the process of adding Burgundy to the cultural world heritage list?
If you are a fan of Gevrey-Chambertin and love the intricacies of the Burgundian vineyards this is a domaine you should not miss. Try a range of the lieux-dits. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. These are terroir driven wines at their best.

Collet Clos label

Domaine Collet Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru 2016
Total production just 1000 bottles

Chablis was badly hit by the frost of 2016. Production was reduced by between 20% and 80% depending on the vineyard location.
Domaine Collect's top wine, and indeed Chablis' finest Grand Cru - Le Clos - did not suffer too badly. However, their total production was still only 1000 bottles.
Tim Atkin MW: There are only 1,000 bottles from this 0.16-hectare parcel, located in the lower part of Les Clos, and that in a year when frost spared the Collets. Fermented and aged in one-year old oak, it's mealy, complex and subtly wooded, with plenty of dry extract and weight and bracing acidity. 2020-28. 94 Points

Normally $142.95

Chartron Montrachet Large
Domaine Jean Chartron Montrachet Grand Cru 2015
Domaine Jean Chartron produce a single barrel of Montrachet annually. The closest I get to drinking it is usually when at the domaine when revently tasting through the current vintage.
The wine comes from the Puligny side and combines the richness and spice of the vineyard with the acidity of great Puligny.
We have 4 bottles of the 2015 in stock which I present at a 20% discount today.
Normally $1850.00 a bottle

John Gilman "View from the Cellar": The 2015 Montrachet chez Chartron is also an outstanding example of the vintage, offering up a deep, pure and very refined bouquet of peach, apple, spring flowers, a touch of fresh almond, a great base of chalky soil tones, vanillin oak and just a hint in the upper register of the butteriness to come with bottle age. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very beautifully balanced, with a fine core of very pure fruit, fine soil inflection, bright acids and excellent length and grip on the focused and very classy finish. This is one of the few Puligny based examples of Montrachet to be found outside of the Laguiche family holdings. 2018-2040.
95 Points
Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report": Here a 1-year-old barrel - the single barrel.
A big bright nose of ripe fruit and a deeper suggestion of minerality. Vibrant, some minerality, incredible weight/concentration and fat - yet never without balance. Exceptionally long.
Seguin-Manuel Echezeaux label
Seguin-Manuel Echezeaux Grand Cru 2015
7 bottles left
From the climat of En Orveaux.
Darren Harris: Just a single barrel in 2015. New oak. From En Orveaux. Just about to be bottled. Elegant and deep nose of black-red fruit and a hint of toasty new oak. The palate manages to show power and finesse at the same time which is a hallmark of serious Burgundy. Terrific length. Really very impressive. The style of the vintage 2015 has produced many quality Echezeaux and this is a top example.

Normally $430.50
