Camus Grand Crus Header
Grand Crus at unbelievable prices

Our first shipment from Domaine Camus came and went very quickly. Too quickly in fact, as I would like to have had some of the wines in stock.

The Domaine is the largest owner of Grand Crus in Gevrey-Chambertin with almost 10.5 hectares! They have Chambertin, Latricieres-Chambertin, Mazis-Chambertin, Mazoyeres-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin. The domaine has had something of an unproven reputation for under-achieving. But is it justified? As the Burgundy Report said in late 2011:  "Everyone has heard the name Camus, truth be told, today mainly with a hint of innuendo to the quality of the wines; but where is the first hand information to support this innuendo? There was only one way to find out, and having spent the time to pay a visit, the more I think about it, the more I believe that consumers are being short-changed by reviewers' lack of engagement. More of that later!"

Camus Chambertin Mood Last year I independently made the decision to visit the domaine and taste the wines. I had consumed bottles from the 1960's and found them to be interesting and enjoyable. I purchased a selection and the wines were shipped. When they arrived I managed to grab a few bottles to try before they all sold and I have to admit I was very pleased with what I tasted. These are really good wines and the more recent vintages show an increase in quality. A bottle of 2012 Chambertin served blind by one of my clients at a Grand Cru Burgundy lunch was just terrific! And such a bargain.

A couple of months ago the domaine provided details of the 2013 vintage (remember the domaine holds each vintage back until it has time to see a little bottle age). 2013 produced wines of elegance with detailed aromatics and medium tannins. They are not blockbusters and are of a style the Burgundian wine makers much love for its purity and typicity. In Gevrey-Chambertin it made for unusually stylish wines with obvious terroir.

We offer the four Grand Crus we have available at a 25% Pre Arrival discount. That makes them crazy cheap! But our order has almost sold. If you wish to secure some of these bargain Grand Crus I recommend you get your order in soon.

All wines are hand labeled with a wax seal.

Coste-Caumartin Boucherottes label
The Spectacular Domaine Coste-Caumartin Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Boucherottes Monopole 2016
More Bottles coming

This was the most exciting new discovery of my trip to Burgundy earlier this year. It is a stunning wine! The label says Premier Cru but I think the quality is certainly Grand Cru.

Our first shipment completely sold out. I have managed to get some more from the domaine bit it won't last forever.

Gilbert & Gaillard: A garnet color with ruby highlights. Racy nose, floral presence with greedy Morello cherry. The palate seduces by its scale, its elegance, its fullness. One praises to the skies for its fruit, its floral dimension, its generous tannic finish. A 2016 with an entire character. 96 Points
Darren Harris: Deep purple-red. Intense nose of cool black fruits - mostly cherries - and huge minerality. Refined and cool. Tight, very tight. The super low cropping adds layer upon layer on a textured palate culminating in an amazing peacock's tail and a very long stony finish. The silky tannins are extremely fine and coated by the velvety fruit. The domaine sets out to make this wine as a Grand Cru with extremely low cropping and beautiful handling. They succeed admirably. I don't think I have ever tasted a Pommard quite like this. It reminds me of a theoretical blend of Corton Clos du Roi, Clos Vougeot and Clos de la Roche with each coming to the fore as the wine sits in the glass. It is a sensual wine and is very special indeed. Forget your pre-conceived idea of Pommard. This is a super wine of Grand Cru quality.

We offer it second time around at the same 25% Pre Arrival Discount.

Landed Price $171.50
Pre Arrival Price $128.50
