"Gorgeously complex" Domaine Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles 2013

Chevillon Robert Cailles 2013 Header
....an utterly beautiful wine
....outstanding mid-palate concentration
....gorgeously complex
One of the highlights of last night's Melbourne Dinner with Patricia Corcia was the Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles 2013.

We all know Robert Chevillon is a fine maker but many of us (myself included) are guilty of neglecting the 2013 vintage. This was a beautifully balanced wine with wonderful poise and finesse, especially considering it comes from Nuits-St-Georges.

Both John Gilman and Burghound have picked up on the inherent qualities with Gilman suggesting drink 2023-2060 and Burghound start drinking 2023! The wine is a delight now so you have a good decade or two or three to watch it in the cellar.

Les Cailles is one of the Nuits-St-Georges 1er Crus involved in the discussionto have some vineyards elevated to Grand Cru status.

We offer this gorgeous wine at a 25% Pre Arrival Discount.

John Gilman "View from the Cellar": One of the reasons I never got my act together and bought more Roncières back in the day is I always bought a lot of les Cailles- not a bad thing- and the 2013 is definitely a wine I want in my cellar! This is an utterly beautiful wine, with a fine sense of reserve today that augurs extremely well for its evolution in bottle. The stunning bouquet offers up scents of black cherries, red plums, bitter chocolate, a gorgeously complex base of soil, woodsmoke, gamebirds and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and very, very soil-driven, with a rock solid core of sappy fruit, tangy acids, laser-like focus and great length and grip on the ripely tannic finish. This is another 2013 that harkens back very strongly to the 1993 version! (Drink between 2023-2060). 94 Points

Burghound: A subtle if not invisible application of wood sets off the spicy, elegant and ultra-pure nose of layered red currant, cherry, violet and warm earth aromas. The delicious, concentrated and sleekly muscular flavors possess outstanding mid-palate concentration before terminating in a balanced and strikingly long finish. The old vine sap is very much in evidence as it pushes the otherwise firm tannins to the background and imparts a velvety feel. This should be terrific in time. (Drink starting 2025). 91-94 Points

Jancis Robinson:
Mid crimson. Lightish mildly glacé strawberry nose. Very sweet and fruity. Deceptively charming already. Tastes as though a lot of work went into making this wine so approachable. Admirably persistent. It really does fan out on the finish, which is where it shows its class. 17.5/20
