Chauvenet 2016 PA Header
"Drag (winemaker at Domaine Chauvenet) continues to improve quality year after year. The style here has always been old school and very Nuits but little by little it has evolved." Burghound Issue 65
Domaine Jean Chauvenet is a top address for traditional Nuits-St-Georges in the very best sense. The domaine own 9.5 hectares of vines mostly in Nuits-St-Georges including many of the commune's finest sites.

The wines are built to age and when young have dark colour and classic tannins. With time they blossom into very special bottles.

We present the range of wines produced in 2016 up to the mighty Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains. I also point out the magic NSG Les Perrieres 2016 - a star of the vintage.

All wines are available at a 15% Pre Arrival Discount. Wines arrive this week.
Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains 2016
750ml bottle Normally $246.50
Pre Arrival Price $209.50
30 bottles available
Chauvenet Vaucrains label Burghound: (from a .41 ha parcel). This is aromatically similar to the Perrières though the menthol character is a bit more prominent. As is virtually always the case chez Chauvenet, this is the biggest and most powerful wine in the range as there is terrific mid-palate concentration that only adds to the sense of volume and opulence, all wrapped in a very firm, serious and brooding finish. Notwithstanding the abundant sap, this is very clearly built for the long-term and is a wine that should be put in your 'buy and forget' category. 2031+. 91-93 Points

Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Perrieres 2016
750ml bottle Normally $199.95
Pre Arrival Price $169.95
25 bottles available

Chauvete Perrieres label 2
Darren Harris:
Chauvenet own parcels in seven Nuits Premier Crus including Les Vaucrains, Les Damodes and Les Bousselots but it is their small 0.23 hectare parcel in Les Perrieres that has me gob-smacked in 2016. The wine combines red and black fruits in a lifted, aromatic nose with minerals in spades. It is fresh and vibrant yet deeply flavoured with subtle spices playing in the background. 1/3 new oak contributes to the freshness and ensures the wine remains lifted and aromatic. This is really fine NSG Premier Cru with an elegant character yet never losing its stamp of origin. Only 3 barrels produced in 2016. Very fine quality.
Burghound:
(from a .23 ha parcel). A spicy and slightly fresher nose features notes of red and blue pinot fruit and menthol along with warm earth nuances. The seductively textured, round and well-concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess excellent complexity and a bit more refinement as well on the balanced and lingering finish that is markedly firm but not rally rustic. Very fine quality here and this is well-worth considering. 2028+.

Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Poulettes 2016
750ml bottle Normally $177.50
Pre Arrival Price $150.95
18 bottles available

Chauvenet Poulettes label Burghound:
Once again a very, very ripe (though not surmature) nose features notes of cassis and various black berry scents. Here too there is fine richness and density to the muscular flavors that manage to retain a good sense of underlying tension while delivering a moderately austere and borderline strict finish. Patience definitely required as this is presently very tightly wound. 2028+.

Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes 2016
750ml bottle Normally $199.95
Pre Arrival Price $169.95
18 bottles available

chauvenet Damodes Label Burghound: (from a .28 ha parcel). A riper nose exhibits aromas of essence of plum, black cherry and earth. The exceptionally rich and seductively textured flavors possess first-rate mid-palate density, all wrapped in muscular and firmly structured but not really rustic finale. Solid quality here. 2026+. 90-92 Points

Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Rue de Chaux 2016
750ml bottle Normally $165.95
Pre Arrival Price $140.95
12 bottles available

Chauvenet Rue de Chaux label
Burghound: This is also quite ripe with its liqueur-like aromas of black cherry, earth, game and a hint of humus. The medium-bodied flavors are also exceptionally rich with excellent mid-palate concentration while flashing a velvety palate impression on the firm, focused and lightly mineral-inflected finale. This is also very Nuits in style as there is a touch of rusticity but no hardness. Worth a look if you have the patience to cellar this for at least a few years. 2026+. 90-92 Points

Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Bousselots 2016
750ml bottle Normally $154.95
Pre Arrival Price $131.50
12 bottles available

Chauvenet Bousselots label Burghound: (Drag noted that his parcel abuts Chaignots). A fresh and unusually ripe nose compared to what is typical in 2016 offers up notes of cassis, black cherry, warm earth and a smoked game nuance. The dense, serious and overtly powerful middle weight plus flavors coat the palate with sap that also buffers the firm, rustic and angular tannins that shape the slightly warm finish. This robust effort is very Nuits in style. 2026+.

Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Aux Argillas 2016
750ml bottle Normally $165.95
Pre Arrival Price $140.95
13 bottles available
Chauvenet Argillas label Burghound:
(from a tiny .17 ha parcel of vines planted in 1992 in a little seen vineyard located at the southern end of the "Vosne" section of Nuits). Discreet wood serves as a relatively neutral backdrop for the fresh aromas of red currant and earth that are laced with plenty of sauvage character. The rich, mouth coating and sappy medium weight flavors possess fine volume while concluding in a moderately rustic finish that offers both fine depth and length. 2026+. 89-92 Points
Nuits-St-Georges 2016
750ml bottle Normally $110.50
Pre Arrival Price $93.95
8 bottles available

Chauvenet Nuits label Burghound:(from the northern portion of Nuits, specifically Aux Allots and Aux St. Jacques). There is just enough reduction to blur the nuance of what appears to be ripe dark berry fruit and earth scents. There is excellent size and weight to the more powerful if less refined medium-bodied flavors that possess fine mid-palate density while offering good length on the rustic and mildly austere finale. Some patience will be required but this too is a quality villages. 2023+
88-91 Points
Vosne-Romanee 2016
750ml bottle Normally $132.95
Pre Arrival Price $112.95
23 bottles available

Chauvenet Vosne label Burghound:
(from Ravioles). A discreet touch of wood can be found on the spicy mix of red currant and plum scents. There is fine volume to the round, rich and velvety middle weight flavors that possess sneaky good length and a lovely sense of harmony. This should be a quality Vosne villages in time. 2022+.

Burgundy Dinner Delcher header

Dinner with Vincent Delcher, Export Manager of BVV. Project 49. Monday 29 October
