Tour ST Michel MAGNUMS New Notes

We have just received The Rhone Report's new tasting notes on 2010 Chateauneuf-du-Pape...

The scores for Domaine Tour St-Michel have increased significantly. Grab some bargain Magnums before they sell out!

The latest edition of the Rhone Report has just landed in my email in-box.

We are delighted to see that Jeb Dunnuck has increased his scores significantly after tasting the finished wines. The lovely 2010 Chateauneuf-du-Pape La Tour du Lion has risen from 89-92 to 94 Points - a score much more in keeping with my experience.

And that makes these hard to find Magnums an even better deal!

The wines are made by Mireille Fabre, one of a small number of female winemakers in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Her style is more feminine than many and her top wine Feminessance brilliantly captures her stylish, expressive winemaking. La Tour du Lion is full of character with a hint of the exotic and pure, layered fruit. It is a knockout.

You might not know the domaine but Robert Parker says "If you haven't caught on to Tour St.-Michel, it's about time, as this is a major up-and-coming estate." "There are three cuvees, all of them brilliant in both 2009 and 2010." They also produced Decanter Magazine's second best Chateauneuf-du-Pape of the 2009 vintage from a field of 235 wines!

These Magnums are now very limited so please act quickly if you would like to secure a few.

Tour St-Michel Lion Magnum Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee La Tour du Lion MAGNUM 2010

The Rhone Report: More traditional and mineral-laced, the 2010 La Tour du Lion is a blend of 75% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 5% Mourvedre that is aged mostly in tank, with 20% of the blend seeing 2-year-old barrels. Elegant and more approachable than the Feminessence, it delivers plenty of black fruit characteristics to go with notions of smoked earth, wet stone, and meaty qualities, with only a hint of the barrique aging showing. This is followed by a full-bodied, gorgeously fruited 2010 that has a fleshy, mouth filling texture, brilliant purity, and a seamless finish. It should be better in a handful of years, and have 10-12 years or more of overall longevity. 94 Points

Tour St Michel Feminessance Magnum Chateauneuf-du-Pape Feminessance MAGNUM 2010

Normal Price $170.00

Pre Arrival Price $144.00

The Rhone Report: Easily the most modern in the lineup, yet absolutely beautifully done, the 2010 Domaine Tour Saint-Michel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Feminessence is a blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Syrah that is aged half in new, and half in 1-year-old, French oak barrels. It offers up an intense array of black cherry liqueur, blackberry, white chocolate, vanilla, and spice box-like aromatics that give way to a full-bodied, seamless palate that has a decadent, almost voluptuous texture, pure fruit, and brilliant richness. I am certainly a fan, but it will not be for everyone given the modern slant. Nevertheless, I think the oak and modern profile here will mostly integrate with 4-5 years of bottle age, and it will have 12-15 years or more of total longevity. 94 Points

Janasse 2010 VV Label

99 Point Janasse Vieilles Vignes 2010
3 bottles left!

Rhone Report: More rich and voluptuous, yet with a similar level of purity and precision, the 2010 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes offers up loads of creamy blackberry, raspberry liqueur, melted licorice, wild flowers, and toasted spice nuances on the nose. Every bit as good on the palate, with a thrilling texture, full-bodied power, and gorgeous underlying structure and tannin, this knockout Châteauneuf-du-Pape stays light and elegant, with nothing out of place or over the top. As with the Chaupin, it is no doubt a brilliant drink now, yet it deserves 7-8 years of bottle age, and will shine for two decades or more! 99 Points!
