Domaine Georges Lignier Clos-St-Denis Grand Cru 2016
Landed Price $363.95
Pre Arrival Price $308.95

Lignier Clos-St-Denis label
Tim Atkin MW
1.49 ha! 40% new oak. He recently changed oak sources. He is the biggest owner of the 6.3 ha. 45- to 70-year-old vines, always blended.
Limpid ruby. Good density with a mentholated note. Rich and powerful and layered and really rather majestic. Real beginning, middle and end. Subtle. Long and layered. Excellent balance. He says this best expresses what he wants to do.

Chezeaux Denis Label
Burghound: As was often the case when this wine was part of the Domaine Ponsot portfolio, it possesses the most complex nose in the range with a gorgeous breadth of elements that include plenty of spice, earth, floral and Asian-style tea, all of which add interest to the liqueur-like dark berry scents. There is impressive density to the sappy middle weight plus flavors thanks to the copious level of dry extract that mostly, if not completely, buffers the very firm tannic spine supporting and shaping the hugely long finish. I very much like the silky mid-palate mouthfeel though this does not lack for power and punch on the imposingly structured finale. Patience. (Drink starting 2036). 93-95 Points

Domaine Jerome Castagnier Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru 2016
Landed Price $306.50
Pre Arrival Price $260.50

Castagnier Denis Label NewDarren Harris: Deeply coloured. Some purple. Tasted after the outstanding 2016 Charmes-Chambertin. Small red-black fruits - cherries, plums and a little blackcurrant. Intensely floral. Gorgeous fruit. Dryer with more depth of extract and higher acid. This is an exotic baby that is going to be so, so good. It is structured, powerful, refined and intense at the same time.

Domaine Bertagna Clos St-Denis Grand Cru 2016
Normal Price $458.95
In Stock Special $389.95

Bertagna Denis Label Darren Harris: Very dense red-purple. An enticing nose of bright, fresh fruit, with much spice and a touch of graphite. The palate is multi-layered with deep fruit flavours and more spicy elements. Intense but not heavy. There is oak but it is coated by such tremendous fruit that the impression is of silkiness. Balanced and precise with a tangy citric note that Bertagna (and indeed most Clos St-Denis) shows every vintage. From 50 year old vines and built to age. My favourite wine at Bertagna (again).

Albert Bichot Clos-de-la-Roche Grand Cru 2016
Landed Price $589.00
Pre Arrival Price $441.75

Bichot Roche Label Burghound:
(from Genavrières). A highly complex and much earthier and sauvage-inflected nose offers up notes of cassis and blue pinot fruit that is nuanced by hints of smoke and spice. There is outstanding richness to the powerful, concentrated and overtly muscular broad-shouldered flavors that possess strikingly impressive persistence on the austere, backward and very firmly structured finish. This brooding but most promising effort is quite compact at present and will need plenty of time to flesh out. 2033+. 92-95 Points

John Gilman, A View from the Cellar:
The grand cru here was raised in fifty percent new oak this year and is one of the stars of the 2016 vintage. The stunning bouquet delivers a complex combination of red and black cherries, black plums, pigeon, dark soil tones, raw cocoa, woodsmoke and a touch of nutty oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and shows off beautiful depth at the core, with plenty of sappiness in reserve, a great soil signature, ripe, suave tannins and a very, very long, nascently complex and vibrant finish. I love this wine's potential! 2030-2085.  96 Points
