Outstanding 2015 Pommard 1er Crus from Domaine Billard-Gonnet

Billard-Gonnet Pommard 2015 Header
Highly rated Pommard 2015 1er Crus for the cellar...

Domaine Billard-Gonnet was established in 1766. Today, it is run by the charming Philippe Billard who has been at the helm for several decades. The domaine of 10 hectares, is located in Pommard. Their holdings include the Premier Crus Pezerolles, Chaponnieres and Rugiens Bas.

Billard-Gonet Philippe Burghound is a true fan of Philippe's wines, firmly stating numerous times in his Burghound review, "Philippe Billard runs what is one of the most under-rated domaines in the entire Côte de Beaune. The wines are old school but not especially rustic or austere, and they are unapologetically built for long-term aging." and "I have said this before to readers but it bears repeating: the Billard wines deliver outstanding quality at very reasonable prices. The style is old school and is not one for early drinking but provided that you do not mind cellaring them for 8 to 10+ years first, they more than reward the investment of time and money. I collect them myself so this is advice that I take as well".

Pommard is very popular in France but less so outside Europe. These wines could change you mind!
We offer the domaine's three Premier Cru Pommards from 2015 today. They have been exceptionally well reviewed by Burghound. The wines are available at a 25% Pre Arrival Discount.

Pommard 1er Cru Pezerolles 2015
Landed Price $143.50
Pre Arrival Price $107.50
Billard-Gonnet Pezerolles label
Burghound:
A ripe, fresh and very pretty nose combines liqueur-like notes of red and dark pinot fruit with those of earth and lilac. There is a really lovely mouth feel to the sleek and refined medium weight flavors that display plenty of minerality on the balanced and nicely persistent finale. There is plenty of sap and, somewhat oddly for a refined terroir like Pézerolles, Pommard-like tannins. Patience required. (Drink starting 2030). 93 Points

Pommard 1er Cru Chaponnieres Vieilles Vignes 2015
Landed Price $146.95
Pre Arrival Price $109.95

Billard-Gonnet Chaponnieres label Burghound:
This too is notably ripe yet retains a lovely sense of freshness on the liqueur-like blend of red pinot fruit, warm earth and forest floor nuances. The palate impression of the bold and robust flavors is more powerful still while displaying an abundance of dry extract that does a fine job of buffering the notably firm tannic spine shaping the rich and sappy finish. This is very definitely old school in style and as such, plenty of patience will be required. (Drink starting 2033). 93 Points

Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens Bas 2015
Landed Price $197.50
Pre Arrival Price $147.95

Billard-Gonnet Rugiens label Burghound:
As is generally the case, this is more elegant and refined than any of the preceding wines with its layered nose of ripe but brooding dark currant, violet and spice scents. In much the same fashion as the Pézerolles there is excellent volume and power to the broad-shouldered and overtly mineral-inflected flavors that culminate in an explosively persistent finish. This is not quite as chiseled as it usually is but the finish makes it abundantly clear that this is going to age for a very long time. Once again, patience, and plenty of it, required. Excellent and highly recommended if you have that patience. (Drink starting 2035). 94 Points
