"This is the best Clos Frantin Echézeaux I've ever tasted, achieving new levels of finesse and balance." Tim Atkin MW

Monday's Dinner with Christian Ciamos from Albert Bichot was a great event. I was tremendously pleased with how the wines opened. I loved the way the terroir shone through on every bottle and that there was terrific consistency between vintages - a sign of great care in the vineyard and skill in the winery.

Overnight I have secured some additional bottles of the Domaine du Clos Fratin Echezeaux Grand Cru 2015. We have long been sold out of theis wine but after seeing how well similar bottles showed at the dinner I was quick to grab everything I could.

Tim Atkin MW considers the 2015 Echezeaux it to be the best ever from Domaine du Clos Frantin.

Frantin Echezeaux
Tim Atkin MW:
The Bichot parcel is located in the Champs Traversins lieu-dit, where it is influenced by the proximity of the Combe d'Orveau. This is the best Clos Frantin Echézeaux I've ever tasted, achieving new levels of finesse and balance. Floral, bright and textured with very subtle oak. 2022-30. 96 Points

The World of Fine Wine:
This is astonishingly ready: so pliable and harmoniuos, so gentle and rich, one could have it for dinner tonight. The structure is finely chiseled, the super-fine tannins settle like delicious dust on the tongue and provide a fine frame for exquisite cherry fruit, flanked by gentlest vanilla, The finish is lip-smacking and deliciously long. 94 Points

Steen Ohman Winehog.org:
The Echezeaux is a bit more backward offering more dark fruit ... The bouquet offer ripe red and dark berry fruit - fine minerality. On the palate intense fruit - balanced, long and ripe with a fine mineralic backbone The fruit is juicy but lacking the nerve and energy of the truly magnificent Grands Echezeaux. Need plenty of time to unfold. 93-94 Points

Mommessin Tart label new
Mommessin Clos de Tart Grand Cru MONOPOLE 2008
Last year the Artemis Group, the holding company owner by y Château Latour's owner, François Pinault, purchased Mommessin for an astronomical sum.
The jewel in the crown is the Monopole Clos de Tart and already we have seen prices start to move with the current vintage selling at well over $1000.00 a bottle.
We have 6 bottles of the highly rated 2008 vintage available at a much more reasonable price.
Burghound:
Mild but not invisible wood frames very ripe yet cool and airy dark fruit aromas that speak of earth, violets, underbrush and a hint of menthol that leads to reserved, intense and tautly muscular broad-shouldered flavors that are textured, naturally sweet, sappy and concentrated while being supported by a notably firm but not aggressive tannic spine and excellent length on the balanced and palate staining finish. This should require between 15 to 20 years to arrive at its apogee as it's noticeably more structured but unlike some less successful '08s, the phenolics here are quite ripe as the low yields and late picking date are clearly in evidence. This resembles the great 2001 more than a little yet there is even more overall depth of material. In short, this should be truly great in time.
