Latricieres-Chambertin was first recognized as a vineyard in its own right in 1508!
The soil here is composed of calcareous clay overlying marl atop thick limestone beds. The soil is lean and a thin and a layer of silica scree from the Grissard valley can be seen at the surface. "Tricière" means "poor soil", but despite this, the soil's characteristics yield wines redolent of notes of wild fruit and subtle complex spices.
The French word "aerien" is often used to describe the wines of Latricieres-Chambertin. Roughly translated it means something between airy and ethereal. When young the wines have rich, yet pure fruit with less tannin than most Gevrey Grand Crus. With age the wines blossom developing wilder notes with spice, earth and truffle and a majestic silken palate.
The 2016 from Albert continues the line of superb Latricieres-Chambertin with real finesse.

Bichot Latricieres

Wine Spectator:
The black cherry and blackberry fruit is wrapped in seductive, smoky oak. Though dense and muscular, this is also close to seamless, even at this early stage. The finish is energetic and vibrant, with a long, minerally aftertaste. Best from 2023 through 2043. 96 Points

Wine Advocate - Neal Martin
The 2016 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru was picked on 3 October, blended with 35% whole bunch fruit and matured in 40% new oak. I appreciate the nose here: very well defined, nicely focused, a mixture of red and black fruit, a little conservative and straightlaced like Latricières should be. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin and crisp acidity, harmonious and poised with a really classy and sophisticated finish that is a joy. One of the best from Albert Bichot this year. Recommended. 94-96 Points

Jancis Robinson:
Wonderfully perfumed nose that has both cranberry and wild raspberry fruit plus violets and spices. Very promising lift on the finish with a long, gradual fade out. Not at all showy, this revels in its savoury restraint and softly spoken intensity. 18/20
