Felettig 2016 PA Gilman Header
Burghound: "quality at this domaine has skyrocketed over the past few vintages...."

Although small, Domaine Felettig is a superstar and their reputation rises with each vintage. If you have consumed some of the past vintages from your cellar you will know what I mean. The wines, at all levels, are simply superb. Burghound says "As readers know, I have enthusiastically reported on the rapid rise of Domaine Felettig to increasing prominence as the quality has done nothing but improve. 2016 represents a cherry on top of the cake as I have never seen better wines across the board from the domaine. If you're not familiar with the wines, you owe it to yourself to make their acquaintance."

John Gilman, A View from the Cellar is of the same opinion "I am strongly of the opinion that the Domaine Felettig wines get a bit better each and every year, as Monsieur Felettig further refines
his style, with the use of whole clusters bringing more potential complexity to the wines, and the use of new oak getting a bit more seamless (perhaps with slightly lower percentages?) with each
passing vintage. This is really a fine source in Chambolle!"

Chambolle suffered tremendously with the frost in 2016 and volumes produced were generally very small. Our allocation was reduced accordingly so if you wish to secure some of these gorgeous 2016's I urge you to act quickly whilst there are still a few bottles available.

All are available at Pre Arrival Prices which save you 15%. The wines are just about to leave France.

One of my favourite domaines from our portfolio.

Felettig Bourgogne Pinot Noir label
John Gilman, A View from the Cellar:
Though this wine was made from tiny, tiny yields, it has turned out really well and will be an excellent example of its level. Monsieur Felettig raised this wine in twenty percent new oak in 2016 and the wine offers up a lovely nose of black cherries, dark berries, woodsmoke, dark soil tones, a bit of chocolate and a very discreet framing of new wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full and moderately tannic for a Bourgogne, with a good core and a long, tangy and still quite primary finish. This will need a year or two in the cellar to blossom, but it will be a fine example. 2020-2035. 88 Points

Burghound: This is notably ripe with fresh liqueur-like aromas of raspberry and a touch of earth. There is both good richness and volume to the succulent and solid concentrated flavors that terminate in a robust and mildly warm and rustic finale. This is a big and solidly complex example of the appellation that is worth checking out.
A Sweet Spot wine.

Felettig NSG
John Gilman, A View from the Cellar:
As I mentioned in the introduction, two-thirds of the blend for the Nuits AC bottling come from vines on the Prémeaux side of the village, which were devastated by the frost, and one-third from the Vosne side, where the frost was virtually non-existent. Interestingly, despite the draconian yields on the Prémeaux side, the wine shows none of the structural coarseness of some badly-frosted wines, and this is another very, very strong and classy AC in the making. The bouquet offers up a superb blend of red plums, black cherries, venison, raw cocoa, excellent soil tones, a dollop of mustard seed and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and again, quite sappy at the core, with ripe, well-integrated tannins and a long, soil-driven and tangy finish. Classy juice. 2024-2060.

The 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges Village comes from parcel located near Prémeaux and therefore it was badly hit by the frost, half the production lost. Matured with 30% whole-bunch fruit, it has a classic, earthy, undergrowth-scented bouquet that actually reminds me more of a Morey-Saint-Denis. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannin, a keen line of acidity, spicy in the mouth with a broad-shouldered, assertive finish that will hopefully find more grace and precision by the time it is in bottle. Not bad, although I preferred the 2015 last year

Felettig Gevrey
John Gilman, A View from the Cellar:
La Justice is one of my favorite villages level vineyards in all of Gevrey and Monsieur Felettig has made an excellent example of this fine terroir in 2016. The bouquet is pure and sappy, offering up scents of red plums, red and black cherries, cocoa, a fine base of dark soil tones, mustard seed and a nice touch of cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very transparent in profile, with a sappy core, suave tannins and a long, poised and quite vibrant finish. This is a beautiful village wine in the making. 2023-2060.

Darren Harris:
Deep Gevrey colour with very dark centre. Open fruit on the mid palate, quite spicy and nice length. Something of the black sheep of the family coming from so far north but this wine, from one of Gevrey's most interesting lieu-dits, is always a winner.
Wine Advocate - Neal Martin:
The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin la Justice was only slightly touched by frost. With 20% whole-bunch fruit and 30% new oak, I feel that the latter is quite vocal on the nose at the moment, suggesting that it will require a couple of years to be subsumed. The palate is soft and rounded on the entry and then those chalky tannins kick in. It feels quite compact and there is some angularity toward the finish. Not a bad la Justice, but I think here that the 2015 is the better wine87-89 Points

Felettig Chambolle VV
John Gilman, A View from the Cellar: The Domaine Felettig old vine Chambolle villages bottling included about twenty percent whole clusters in 2016 and was raised in thirty percent new oak. Gilbert Felettig noted that the natural alcohol here was thirteen percent and he chose not to chapitalize the wine. This is going to be a very, very good bottle of Chambolle "V.V.", as it offers up a pure and black fruity bouquet of black cherries, gamebird, complex soil tones, woodsmoke, vanillin oak and a touch of balsam bough in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, tangy and nicely transparent in personality, with a fine core, ripple tannins and a long, vibrant and nascently complex finish. Good juice. 2023-2060.

Burghound:
This too is super-fresh with its more deeply pitched nose of dark raspberry, cherry, violet and a whiff of spice. The dense, serious and unusually concentrated flavors possess good power and minerality plus strikingly good depth and length for a villages level wine. This is not a Chambolle of grace and lace but rather one of density and drive. A Sweet Spot Wine.

Wine Advocate - Neal Martin:
The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes, aged in 30% new oak with the same percentage of whole bunch, has an attractive, cohesive bouquet with clean, pure blackberry, bilberry and blueberry fruit, expressing the essence of Chambolle with style. The palate is medium-bodied with a sharp, penetrating entry, a keen line of acidity that lends this freshness and tension, and underneath the dark berry fruit a linear finish with tangible mineral tones lingering on the aftertaste. Excellent. 90-92 Points

Felettig Vosne LabelJohn Gilman, A View from the Cellar:
This was another of the fortunate cuvées at Domaine Felettig in 2016, as there was virtually no frost here and the wine has also turned out very, very well for its level. The nose is pure and expressive, wafting from the glass in a classic blend of black raspberries, black cherries, gamebird, Vosne spices, a lovely base of dark soil tones and a touch of cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very mineral in profile, with a sappy core of black fruit, excellent focus and balance, fine-grained tannins and impressive lift and backend tension on the well balanced finish. Another really good villages. 2023-2060. 91+ Points

(20% whole cluster). Here the expressive nose is very Vosne in basic character with its overtly spiced array of dark currant and Asian-style tea scents. The supple and utterly delicious flavors are highly seductive with a rich and opulent mouthfeel, all wrapped in a balanced and lingering finish. While this should be capable of rewarding 6 to 8 years of cellar time it should also drink well in its youth. 2022+ 89-91 Points

Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuees 2016
Normally $198.95
Pre Arrival Price $168.95

Felettig Fuees Label Burghound:
Felettig noted that this had just completed its malo and not surprisingly the nose was reduced. On the plus side there is both good freshness and energy to the impressively rich and broad-shouldered flavors that possess a taut muscularity while flashing outstanding length on the firm but not austere finale. This is quite serious yet the velvety texture is seductive. Lovely stuff. A Sweet Spot Wine.
90-93 Points
Wine Advocate - Neal Martin:
The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Fuées includes around 30% whole bunches with 50% new oak. It has a glorious bouquet, quite intense and well defined with scents of red berry fruit, damp loamy soil/woodland, hints of Earl Grey developing in the glass. This is surprisingly mercurial. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannin, structured but not imposing with a superb line of acidity, fresh and tensile right through to the very finish. The quality of this premier cru shines through here. Superb. 92-94 Points
