A Mixed Bag and a Mystery Wine

Greetings!

Monday night #2 is now several weeks past. The 2009 vs 2010 theme was an interesting exercise. It proved that telling the difference between the same wines from 2009 and 2010 is not as easy as you would think. Nobody scored 5 out of 5.

I have selected the wines for our third Monday at Ladro.

I have decided to mix it up. Mostly Burgundies, with a comparative tasting of Rhones and a mystery Red.

Here's the lineup:

Whites to start....

de la Verpaille Macon Vieilles Vignes 2011

Lucien Le Moine Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatieres 2009

Jean Chartron Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatieres 2010

A great value cheapie from 115 year old vines. I'm curious what you think. Then two Folatieres from makers who make intense and complex wines. I'll serve them blind for a bit of fun.

Grand Cru/Premier Cru - you decide...

du Pavillon Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Clos des Marechaudes Monopole 2010

du Pavillon Corton Clos du Marechaudes Grand Cru Monopole 2010

An interesting Pair. Part in Aloxe-Corton, part in Ladoix-Serrigny. Part Grand Cru, Part Premier Cru. Both Monopoles. These have to be served blind as well.

 A Pair of interesting 2009's

Chantal Lescure Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Suchots 2009

Hospices de Beaune Corton Cuvee Charlotte Dumay Grand Cru 2009

One of Vosne's best 1er Crus and a Hospice auction wine. Polar in style. Which do you prefer?

Ogier "Expressions de Terroir" Tasting

Chateauneuf-du-Pape Eclats Calcaires 2009

Chateauneuf-du-Pape Safres 2009

Chateauneuf-du-Pape Gres Rouge 2009

Chateauneuf-du-Pape Galets Roules 2009

Same blend, same winemaking, just grown on the different soils that make up Chateauneuf-du-Pape: Limestone rock, marl, degraded red sandstone and glacier pebbles.

The Mystery Wine

No hints (except that it is red)
