Two Outstanding Corton-Charlemagne with Montrachet-like Scores

Pavilloon Corton Charlemagne 2015 2016 Header
94, 95, 96 Points, Trophy, Gold Medals. Two very special Corton-Charlemagne

Domaine du Clos Frantin produce one of the best Corton-Charlemagne around. The wine consistently performs at the top of the class in competitions and earns extremely high scores from the critics.

Located in the "Les Languettes" climat on the south/southeast side of the Corton hill, the plot, which once belonged to the nuns of the Lieu-Dieu Abbey, was nicknamed "Vigne Dieu" by the old wine merchants and historians of Aloxe-Corton. A terroir renowned for its white wines whose power, due in part to its location on the hillside, can showcase finesse, delicacy and purity, on both an aromatic and a gustatory level.

We have very small quantities of the 2015 and 2016 vintages available. Both have received scores the like of which are usually awarded to Le Montrachet.

Decanter World Wine Awards:
Opulent and serious with many layers and a brocade of apricot and peaches garnished with smoke and yoghurt; oak tannins, toast and smoke join on the sustained finish. A classy, superb food style. 95 Points

Tim Atkin MW:
Picked comparatively early - Corton-Charlemagne can be a rich wine as it is - this is a very well judged expression of the Grand Cru, which has minimised the effect of the hot conditions. Zesty, leesy and sensitively oaked, with a lovely combination of power and focus. Balanced and long. 2018-25. 95 Points

James Suckling Tasting Report:
The white and yellow peaches have a lightly spicy thread as well as a lightly grilled character, making it very attractive and slightly exotic. The palate has a very punchy and deep-set feel. Pithy and lots of phenolic weight here. A long minerally finish. Terrific. 94 Points

Tim Atkin MW:
This impressive Grand Cru white is sourced from Les Languettes, an east-facing lieu-dit on the south side of the hill of Corton. It's a rich, powerful, waxy style, with lots of texture and weight, stylish oak and the freshness, focus and palate length that make this such a remarkable terroir. 2020-28. 96 Points

James Suckling Tasting Report:
This has a flinty appeal with aromas of white peaches and lightly spiced peach custard. Very impressive power, which really explodes on the palate with powerful white peaches, grilled hazelnuts and citrus hints. A little honey to close. Very long and seamless. Superb wine. Drink or hold. 95 Points
