Tiny quantities, serious wines...
Excellent scores from Burghound and Bill Nanson
Burghound's reviews of the 2016 Whites Burgundies have just been published. He is extremely positive about Morey-Coffinet's whites (as was Bill Nanson).
The now legendary frost of 27 April severely affected the domaine's vineyards and the volume of grapes produced varied from 10% to 40% of usual. Sadly, this means that a number of cuvees were not be produced in 2016.
We have small quantities still available at our Pre Arrival Discount of 15%. The wines will arrive in Australia at the end of next month.

From a .13 ha parcel of vines planted in 1996 and located on the Chassagne side that produced 1 barrel rather than 3 in 2016. That's just 300 bottles for the world!
Burghound:
Here the beautifully fresh nose is attractively floral with its mix of white orchard fruit, especially white peach, and softly oaky aromas. There is outstanding size and weight to the broad-shouldered yet refined flavors that possess a succulent mid-palate that contrasts with the powerful and impressively long finish. This needs to develop better depth but the underlying material appears to be present such that my rating implicitly assumes it will.
93 Points
Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report": From the Chassagne side, close to the only tree in the vineyard! One-third of a normal harvest here. One row of vines near the wall was fine, but the deeper into the vineyard you moved, the more frosted it became.
Freshness and a little salinity too. Hmm, fine intensity here - really a changing flavour, continuously evolving in the mouth. Some salinity and layers of flavour. Excellent wine...

Burghound:
An elegant and admirably pure nose displays liqueur-like aromas of pear, honeysuckle, citrus zest and a hint of spice. Here too the medium weight flavors possess a lovely mouth feel if not quite the same concentration and complexity on the balanced and harmonious finish. This is certainly very pretty and sophisticated but the La Romanée offers another dimension of depth. A Sweet Spot Wine. 91 Points
Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report": The nose starts wide, becomes, more floral, some salinity, slowly changing, and ever-more attractive. Hmm, really good volume in the mouth, changing, not the must focus, but there is discrete structure and always fine flavour of good intensity. Fine, elegant and beautiful, and with delicious waves of finishing flavour.

Burghound:
Post-bottling residual SO2 presently dominates the underlying fruit. There is a highly seductive mouth feel to the intensely stony, dense and vibrant medium weight flavors that possess outstanding complexity on the balanced and saline-infused finish. This is terrific. A Sweet Spot Wine. 93 Points
Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report": A faint oak spice with a vibration of reduction. Hmm, layers - and delicious layers of flavour at that. Mouth-watering gorgeous wine. Really super wine here!

Burghound:
There is a whiff of reduction that shaves the top notes from the floral and citrus aromas. Otherwise there is once again fine concentration to the much more mineral-inflected and finer middle weight flavors that are shaped by both a tautly muscular mouth feel and lemon-tinged acidity on the balanced finale. A Sweet Spot Wine. 91 Points
Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report": A little higher toned, faint pepper spice. A brighter freshness, seemingly spiced, but layers of flavour, indeed sweetness of flavour. Delicious wine - perhaps I expect a little more density but this is super tasty...

Bill Nanson "The Burgundy Report": This and Puligny Pucelles have been bottled.
Hmm, bright, almost spiced and saline nose with a classic herb. Wide, almost spicy Meursault style but with a different structure. Layers of fine Chassagne flavour. Delicious wine.
If you are a fan of the domaine you should not miss the 2016's.
