Magnien Cazetiers label NV
Guide Hachette: The vineyard closest to the estate, a sweet and fine wine on the attack, firmer and tighter in the middle of the mouth and in the finish. The concentration is good and the complex aromatic expression (peony, black cherry, blackberry, smoky touch). A wine built for ageing.

Magnien Cazetiers label NV
Wine Enthusiast - Roger Voss: This rich wine is firm with tannins. It has structure and concentration as well as layers of black plum and cherry fruits. Put these elements together and it will age impressively. Drink this wine with its juicy aftertaste from 2023. 94 Points

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles St-Jacques 2014
Normal Price $249.95
Clearance Special $149.95

Magnien Estournelles label
Darren Harris: Deep colour. Nose of cool, red fruits with a mineral tang. Elegant, yet intense palate with fresh red fruits; currant, cherry, a cool floral note and lots of minerals. Not particularly earthy like many Gevreys. The overall impression is a wine of elegance with considerable power lurking below.  Fine and punchy. A lovely wine.

Magnien Estournelles label
Darren Harris: From a 0.33 ha holding. Very bright and deep. Intense, spicy nose with black fruit. Not earthy - the soil here is the same Corton-Charlemagne in the Cote de Beaune with white mark, small stones and not much covering. In fact the wine is quite cool and restrained with great depth of character. Its all about aromatics, texture, minerality and finesse. And that makes a lovely wine in 2015.
Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux
St-Jacques 2014
Normal Price $265.95
Clearance Special $159.55

Magnien Lavaux NV label Darren Harris: A great comparison with the Estournelles St-Jacques. Similar dark colour. The nose is also red fruited but with more obvious weight and richness. A little more animale. Still very mineral and vibrant. Full in the mouth with a coolness that the site brings. The wine is more muscular with tremendous mouth feel, plenty of layers, and a long finish. Which is better - Lavaux or Estournelles? It is a toss up. Buy a little of both and make your own mind up.

Magnien Lavaux NV label
Wine Enthusiast - Roger Voss: Richly juicy, this wine, from one of the finest of the Gevrey Premier Crus, is already attractive. It has great fruit, rich tannins and a spicy character from the wood aging. At the moment, the acidity and crisp texture dominate, although this will change to bring out the richness of the wine. Wait to drink from 2024. 93 Points

Alvear 1927 PX Halves label
Alvear Pedro Ximinez Solera 1927
98 Points from Robert Parker

Bodegas Alvear was founded in 1729 and to this day remains under the control of the same family. They own 124 hectares of vineyards in the Montilla-Moriles appellation of Spain. Anyone who visits the area recognizes the incredible white soils, which are dominated by chalk/limestone and the key to the great acids these products possess.
Alvear speclialize in Pedro Ximinez, particularly the rich, intense, sweet wine that the grape variety produces. This Pedro Ximinez is a solera wine begun in 1927. Occasionally wine is drawn off and the younger wines stored in the upper parts of the tier of casks are systematically blended with the more mature wine in the casks below.

Robert Parkers' Wine Advocate (2015): The NV Pedro Ximenez Solera 1927 is non-vintage, but does have some 1927 material in it. This is totally dark brown/amber with notes of figs, toffee, caramel syrup, molasses and coffee. It is dense, super sweet, intense, rich and an amazingly, unctuously textured, thick beverage to consume slowly and introspectively after a meal. Drink now through 2050, or even longer. 98 Points

Landed Price (375ml) $59.50
