Domaine Roblot-Marchand Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Rouges du Dessus 2015
Normally $140.95
Special $119.81
7 bottles available

Roblot-Marchand Vosne Rouges Label Darren Harris:
Deep red colour. Completely different aromatic profile to the Chambolles. Raspberry and cherry and a very pronounced Asian spice element. On the palate the wine is dark fruit and violets with exotic spice elements and a stoney mineral tang. Balanced, fresh and medium bodied on the mid palate. I like the way the tannins gently enter and drive the wine to its finish. Benchmark refined Vosne-Romanee from a great vintage.
Albert Bichot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 2015 MAGNUM
Normally $1450.00.00
Special $1232.50
4 MAGNUMS available
Bichot Amoureuses Label
Wine Advocate - Neal Martin
The 2015 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Amoureuses, which contains 20-25% whole bunch fruit, has a surprisingly understated bouquet when considering both the precocity of the vintage and the esteemed vineyard in question. It gently unfurls with red cherries, strawberry preserve, crushed rose petals and wet stone. This is very classy and dare I say, I might mistake it for say one of Christophe Roumier's wines. The palate is very refined with crisp acidity, shimmering red cherry and strawberry fruit, superb mineralité and great tension on the finish. Do not underestimate this Amoureuses, because I suspect it will have a long and prosperous future. 94-96 Points
Domaine des Chezeaux (Ponsot) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Charmes 2014
Normally $235.00
Special $199.75
4 bottles available
Chezeaux Charmes label Burghound: A very cool and pure if highly restrained nose only grudgingly reveals subtle notes of wild red and dark berries, spice, humus, wet stone and animale hints. There is first-rate detail and vibrancy to the beautifully well-detailed and imposingly scaled flavors that possess outstanding mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a driving mineral-driven, linear and complex finish. This too is going to need plenty of bottle age to unwind and flesh out as well as to soften what is presently a very firm tannic spine. 91-93 Points

Domaine Jerome Chezeaux Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Chaumes 2014
Normally $152.50
Special $129.63
8 bottles available

Domaine Fernand and Laurent Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Champgains 2015
Normally $131.50
Special $111.75
4 bottles available
Pillot Champgains
(from 10+ year old vines). Moderately firm reduction renders the nose tough to assess today. By contrast there is a lovely sense of freshness and verve to the delicious middle weight flavors that are less imposing while possessing a bit more refinement, which is particularly apparent on the saline-inflected, persistent and solidly complex finale. 91 Points

Domaine Jean Chauvenet Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Bousselots 2015
Normally $151.95
Special $129.16
8 bottles available
Chauvenet Bousselots label
Burghound: Drag noted that his parcel abuts Chaignots). There is enough wood to remark upon framing the spicy and earthy dark currant aromas. The robust, serious and concentrated medium weight plus flavors possess ample power and punch while delivering excellent length on the somewhat rustic finish. This borderline strict effort is a classic Nuits in character and will need ample time to soften what are presently very firm tannins. 2027+
 90-92 Points
Domaine Philippe Cheron Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Champonnet 2015
Normally $178.50
Special $151.73
8 bottles available

Cheron Champonnets Label
Darren Harris: Paler than the Seurees. Nose of earth, minerals, clove and raspberry. The wine is elegantly structured and quite light on its feet for 1er Cru Gevrey. More berry, earth and mineral on the palate. Balanced and very textured. The cooler site adding restraint. Certainly not a blockbuster but a deceptively well balanced wine that says a lot about Cheron's winemaking.

Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchots Dessus 2015
Normally $229.95
Special $195.46
7 bottles available

(from a miniscule .064 ha parcel of 25+ year old vines; Blanchots-Dessus abuts Montrachet on its southern end). This is firmly reduced today though my sense is that it will likely progressively dissipate with age. Otherwise there is more size, weight and muscle to the beautifully concentrated big-bodied flavors that are a bit less mineral-driven on the slightly more complex finish. This robust effort isn't refined but it is impressive. A Sweet Spot Wine. 2023+. 92 Points

Seguin-Manuel Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes 2015
Normally $121.95
Special $103.66
12 bottles available

Bettane and Desseauve
Plot now managed by the house and the result is obvious. Racy, almost wild, fleshy and very deep. Hold or drink now, it will be according to the envy of the moment. The essence of Beaune is very successful. Highly recommended purchase.

Communes of Burgundy Dinner Header
Understanding the Communes of Burgundy Dinner at The Smith
Last 10 Seats

Like to learn more about the communes of Burgundy? Our next dinner will take you on a journey from the south to the north of the Cote d'Or stopping at 12 of the major villages. At each stop we will taste a wine, discuss its properties and learn what makes the wine typical of its area.

To do this properly I have selected a 2015 Premier Cru from each of the communes so we are comparing wines produced from grapes grown under the same conditions. To make it a little more interesting the wines are from 12 different producers.

For anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of Burgundy this is an event not to be missed. We only have 24 seats available so if you wish to attend please book in quickly. Extensive tasting notes will be supplied for each wine.

Date: Wednesday 6 June 2018
Time: 7pm
Venue: The Smith, 213-219 High St, Prahran 3181
