The First Commercial Release of the Hubert Lignier Griotte-Chambertin

lignier hubert griotte
The first commercial release of a rare Grand Cru
Super collectable as well as highly rated
11 bottles available

Domaine des Chezeaux are the largest owners of the Grand Cru Griotte-Chambertin. As you know their parcel is farmed en metayage by Ponsot with one third of the wine returned to Chezeaux and released under their own label.

What you may not know is that a smaller portion of Domaine des Chezeaux's Griotte vineyard has traditionally been farmed by Domaine Rene Leclerc. Domaine des Chezeaux has not been too impressed with Leclerc's effort and in 2014 the decision was made to make part of this portion available to Domaine Hubert Lignier. In 2014 Lignier made one barrel as an experimental cuvee. The wine was very well received. In 2015 Lignier was provided with twice the amount and produced two barrels of Griotte-Chambertin which has been made available as the first commercial release.

It will be very interesting to see how this rare bottling compares with the Ponsot vinification. Lignier has a light hand and his style is very different to Laurent Ponsot's. If you are a buyer of Domaine des Chezeaux's Griotte-Chambertin you should treat yourself to a bottle of this Lignier cuvee. They will be wonderful to compare.

As the first commercial release, and with less than 600 bottles produced, this is destined to become a collector's item. We have a handful of bottles available. It is not cheap - but rarity never is. Priced at a little more Domaine des Chezeaux's Griotte-Chambertin (and much less than Ponsot's label) it is a wine to seriously consider. There will be very, very few bottles in Australia.

The wine is available at a 25% Pre Arrival Discount. Be quick - this is a very special bottle and will not be able to secure more.

Lignier Hubert Griotte Tim Atkin MW
The second vintage of Domaine Hubert Lignier Griotte-Chambertin is outstanding. The bouquet is beautifully red fruity and perfumed, soaring from the glass in a mix of cherries, red plums, strawberries, chalky soil tones, cocoa, woodsmoke, cedar and a topnote of roses. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and very red fruit in personality, with a sappy core, lovely soil signature, fine-grained tannins and a very long, nascently complex and transparent finish. Lovely Griotte in the making. 2025-2080+. 95 Points

Vinous: Stephen Tanzer:
(just two barrels made, from 40-year-old vines): Palish red. Captivating perfume of raspberry, red cherry and rose petal. Juicy and sharply delineated in the mouth, with a high-pitched floral quality adding lift to the pungent cranberry, pomegranate and wild strawberry flavors. Less dense than the Hospices de Nuits wine but much more elegant and sharply delineated. The very long, palate-staining finish conveys an impression of mineral tension if not the power of some of the wines vinified by Lignier. With its firm spine of noble tannins, this savory grand cru offers outstanding finesse, as well as the balance and structure for a graceful evolution in the cellar. 92-95 Points

Buffet Rougeotte label
Domaine Francois Buffet Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Rougeotte Monopole 1996

With a long history Domaine Francois Buffet comprises 8 hectares of vineyards mostly in Volnay and Pommard. The domaine is run by Marc-Olivier Buffet, the eighth generation.

The domaine's Volnay parcels are particularly impressive with holdings in the Premier Crus Champans, Clos des Chenes, Taillepieds, Le Village, Carelle Sous la Chapelle as well as the 0.52 hectare Monopole Clos de la Rougeotte.

Domaine Francois Buffet is a new addition to our portfolio.
We will be starting with the 2016's but as a little incentive the domaine has made this back vintage available to us at very reasonable price.

Domaine Francois Buffet Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Rougeotte Monopole 1996
Landed Price $265.00
Special Pre Arrival Price $199.00
(Save 25%)
Marc-Olivier Buffet is justifiably proud of the domaine's 0.52 hectare Monopole Clos de la Rougeotte. The vineyard produces wines that are aromatic, redolent with raspberries and minerals. Not as obvious or powerful as Champans or Clos des Chenes, Clos de la Rougeotte is layered and intricate. At 22 years of age this wine, direct from the domaine's cold 18th century cellars, will be hitting its straps. Only 16 bottles available.
