Burghound: "quality at this domaine has skyrocketed over the past few vintages...."

Having visited Burgundy late last year and viewed the almost empty cellars I have been anxiously waiting for my allocation of 2016's from Domaine Felettig.

This small domaine is a superstar and their reputation rise with each vintage. If you have consumed some of the past vintages from your cellar you will know what I mean. The wines, at all levels, are simply superb. Burghound says in the latest issue "As readers know, I have enthusiastically reported on the rapid rise of Domaine Felettig to increasing prominence as the quality has done nothing but improve. 2016 represents a cherry on top of the cake as I have never seen better wines across the board from the domaine. If you're not familiar with the wines, you owe it to yourself to make their acquaintance."

Chambolle suffered tremendously with the frost in 2016 and volumes produced were generally very small. Our allocation was reduced accordingly so if you wish to secure some of these gorgeous 2016's I urge you to act quickly.

All are available at Pre Arrival Prices which save you 15%.

Felettig Bourgogne Pinot Noir label
Burghound: This is notably ripe with fresh liqueur-like aromas of raspberry and a touch of earth. There is both good richness and volume to the succulent and solid concentrated flavors that terminate in a robust and mildly warm and rustic finale. This is a big and solidly complex example of the appellation that is worth checking out.
A Sweet Spot wine.

Wine Advocate - Neal Martin
The 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges Village comes from parcel located near Prémeaux and therefore it was badly hit by the frost, half the production lost. Matured with 30% whole-bunch fruit, it has a classic, earthy, undergrowth-scented bouquet that actually reminds me more of a Morey-Saint-Denis. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannin, a keen line of acidity, spicy in the mouth with a broad-shouldered, assertive finish that will hopefully find more grace and precision by the time it is in bottle. Not bad, although I preferred the 2015 last year

Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice 2016

Felettig Gevrey Darren Harris:
Deep Gevrey colour with very dark centre. Open fruit on the mid palate, quite spicy and nice length. Something of the black sheep of the family coming from so far north but this wine, from one of Gevrey's most interesting lieu-dits, is always a winner.
Wine Advocate - Neal Martin:
The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin la Justice was only slightly touched by frost. With 20% whole-bunch fruit and 30% new oak, I feel that the latter is quite vocal on the nose at the moment, suggesting that it will require a couple of years to be subsumed. The palate is soft and rounded on the entry and then those chalky tannins kick in. It feels quite compact and there is some angularity toward the finish. Not a bad la Justice, but I think here that the 2015 is the better wine87-89 Points

Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes 2016

Felettig Chambolle VV Burghound: This too is super-fresh with its more deeply pitched nose of dark raspberry, cherry, violet and a whiff of spice. The dense, serious and unusually concentrated flavors possess good power and minerality plus strikingly good depth and length for a villages level wine. This is not a Chambolle of grace and lace but rather one of density and drive. A Sweet Spot Wine.
89-92 Points

Wine Advocate - Neal Martin:
The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes, aged in 30% new oak with the same percentage of whole bunch, has an attractive, cohesive bouquet with clean, pure blackberry, bilberry and blueberry fruit, expressing the essence of Chambolle with style. The palate is medium-bodied with a sharp, penetrating entry, a keen line of acidity that lends this freshness and tension, and underneath the dark berry fruit a linear finish with tangible mineral tones lingering on the aftertaste. Excellent. 90-92 Points

Felettig Vosne LabelBurghound:
(20% whole cluster). Here the expressive nose is very Vosne in basic character with its overtly spiced array of dark currant and Asian-style tea scents. The supple and utterly delicious flavors are highly seductive with a rich and opulent mouthfeel, all wrapped in a balanced and lingering finish. While this should be capable of rewarding 6 to 8 years of cellar time it should also drink well in its youth. 2022+ 89-91 Points
Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Lavrottes 2016
Normally $198.95
Pre Arrival Price $168.95

Felettig Lavrottes label Burghound:
Reduction currently dominates the nose but there is excellent intensity, freshness and concentration to the muscular medium weight plus flavors that offer very fine depth and persistence on the more obviously structured and borderline rustic finish. As is usually the case this is less refined than the Fuées but what isn't always the case is that it's actually more complex. Patience.
90-93 Points
Wine Advocate - Neal Martin:
The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Lavrottes is located in the north of the appellation that was less affected by the frost, so this was cropped at around 25 hectoliters per hectare. It was harvested toward the end of the harvest to gain concentration, includes 30% whole-bunch fruit and was raised in 50% new oak. I like the nose. Gentle at first, then opening its arms and revealing lovely redcurrant, cranberry and crushed strawberry aromas tinged with gravel. The palate is medium-bodied with fine but firm tannin, a fine bead of acidity and good structure-you can feel this gripping the mouth so that the saline finish is almost like a Morey-Saint-Denis. This is a great wine and it should provide longevity if you swing that way. 91-93 Points

Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuees 2016
Normally $198.95
Pre Arrival Price $168.95
23 bottles left

Felettig Fuees Label Burghound:
Felettig noted that this had just completed its malo and not surprisingly the nose was reduced. On the plus side there is both good freshness and energy to the impressively rich and broad-shouldered flavors that possess a taut muscularity while flashing outstanding length on the firm but not austere finale. This is quite serious yet the velvety texture is seductive. Lovely stuff. A Sweet Spot Wine.
90-93 Points
Wine Advocate - Neal Martin:
The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Fuées includes around 30% whole bunches with 50% new oak. It has a glorious bouquet, quite intense and well defined with scents of red berry fruit, damp loamy soil/woodland, hints of Earl Grey developing in the glass. This is surprisingly mercurial. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannin, structured but not imposing with a superb line of acidity, fresh and tensile right through to the very finish. The quality of this premier cru shines through here. Superb. 92-94 Points
