Domaine Agathe Bursin is tiny. At just 5.5 hectares it is not surprising that these highly rated wines sell out before bottling and are almost never seen outside Europe.
Agathe studied in Burgundy and worked in Chablis and the Rhone prior to taking control of the domaine.
The domaine owns vineyards in the lieu-dits of Distelberg, Lutzenthal and Bollenberg but the top of the tree is the Grand Cru Zinnkoepfle.
Zinnkoepfle is the highest vineyard in Alsace and thanks to it priviledged position enjoys a warm and dry microclimate sheltered from wind and rain. Its reputation goes back centuries.
The slope is steep and the soil calcarious sandstone ensuring pure and refined wines from all grape varieties.
I tasted at the domaine last last year. Unlike elsewhere, the 2010s were completely sold out. I have been patient and have a small allocation of 2011s (plus some of the grand 2009 late harvest wines).
Being such a new vintage there are few reviews of the 2011s available. You are going to have to trust me and try the wines of this gifted young winemaker.
