Domaine Bruno Desaunay-Bissey is a name that is familar to many Burgundy drinkers in Australia.

The family own parcels of very old vines in and around Vosne-Romanee. Since 2007 Bruno uses no herbicides or pesticides, all the soil being tilled. Bruno's winemaking is very terroir-expressive, doing short pre-fermentation maceration, using indigenous yeasts, and not too much extraction. Barrel-aging is about 1/3 new except for more with the Grands Crus. The wines are neither fined nor filtered. The result is beautifully balanced, perfumed, textured, complex, lingering Burgundies.

The domaine does not seek the opinion of critics so there are few reviews on the internet. However, my impression is that the wines are quite elegant with the texture that only old vines can add.

We have four wines available all of which we offer at a 30% Pre Arrival Discount.

Basically an extension of the Grand Cru Echezeaux climat En Orveaux. The vines here are almost a century old.

The vineyard produces very stylish wines.
desaunay-bissey vosne rouges label Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Rouges 2015
Landed Price $193.50
Pre Arrival Price $135.50

The Premier Cru Les Rouges lies immediately above the Echezeaux climats Les Champs Traversins and Les Rouges du Bas - not a bad location! The soil is full of tiny pebbles and the cool breeze means that the grapes ripen two weeks after most of Echezeaux. Desaunay-Bissey's vines are around 80 years of age.
desaunay-bissey beaux monts label Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaumonts 2015
Landed Price $199.50
Pre Arrival Price $139.95
4 bottles left

Les Beamonts is located high on the slope above Echezeaux, Les Suchots and Richebourg. It produces cool-fruited, pure wines which can be quite exceptional.

The domaine's vines are 80 years old.

Landed Price $469.00
Pre Arrival Price $328.00

Desaunay-Bissey own just 0.15 hectares spread between the climats Les Champs Traversins and Les Quartiers de Nuits. The later is an unusual appellation as when you look at a map it is appears that it should be part of the Clos Vougeot climat Petit Maupertui except that it has been otherwise removed and left outside the Clos' wall. Politics?

The domaine's vines are over 110 years of age and this is their only Grand Cru. The jewel in their crown.

Aged Burg Dinner Header 2
1 seat left

Finding quality aged Burgundy has become particularly difficult - the supply has dried up and prices have risen enormously - so this was a particularly significant purchase.
It has been almost a year since our last Aged Burgundy Dinner and before I head back to France I thought it would be fun to host another rare wine dinner.
This dinner features 16 bottles of aged Burgundy. The youngest vintage is 1969 - hard to believe it will be 50 years old next year. There are no fewer than six 1959's - one of my all-time favourite vintages - and a host of other wines.
I have created 4 brackets - Nuits-St-Georges, Corton, Clos Vougeot and Grand Cru Gevrey-Chambertin. They are all communes with the ability to cellar for extended periods. Comparing wines in each bracket should be a fascinating exercise.
The dinner will be at ESP (Estelle by Scott Picket). The restaurant has 2 Chef's Hats in the Good Food Guide 2018. Scott's food is always exciting and will match the wines brilliantly.
Date: Tuesday 27 February 2018
Venue: ESP by Scott Pickett, 245 High St, Northcote 3070
Time: 7pm
Cost: $1295.00 per person

New Arrivals Dinner Noir April 2018 Header
Selling fast

2016 has begun at a rapid pace. Our first container has arrived and another is due mid March. That means a lot of new wines and a bevy of first-time producers.

Our next dinner features 13 wines from 13 producers. Whilst most of the wines are from Burgundy we will also venture out to other regions of France with whites from the Rhone and the Loire.

You will have the opportunity to taste the recently bottled Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Perrieres 2016 from Domaine Jomain and the ageless Meursault 1993 from Domaine Ampeau. There's a contrast in vintages for you!

We have two brackets of reds including our third Selection Grand Millesime wine - a Pinot Noir from the Mornington Peninsula. I bet you didn't see that coming! And of course seven 2015 red Burgundies from the far north to the deep south.

It is going to be a lot of fun!

The wines will be accompanied by a 4-course meal at one of our favourite restaurants - Noir - in Richmond. The restaurant has One Hat in the Good Food Guide and chef peter Roddy consistently turns out great food.

Date: Wednesday 4 April 2018
Time: 7pm
Venue: Noir, 175 Swan Street, Richmond 3121
Cost: $165.00 per person
