Domaine Georges Lignier 2015 Red Burgundies. Great reviews! Don't miss these serious Burgundies
They say all good things take time. Benoit Stehly, the nephew of Georges, has been making the wines at George Lignier for some years. He has refined and developed his own style which is more about freshness, aromatics and complexity rather than extraction and heavy oak handling.

I tasted his 2015's last December and was extremely impressed. I dare say they are the best wines Benoit has made.
And both Tim Atkin MW and Stephen Tanzer seems to be in agreement too. They have given the 2015 Grand Crus huge scores and wonderful reviews.
Like all 2015 reds demand has been huge and we only have a handful of most wines remaining.
Wines are available at a 15% Pre Arrival Discount. We have increased that to over 25% on the popular Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru Clos des Ormes and Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Combottes.

Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2015
1500ml MAGNUM $880.00
Pre Arrival Price $748.00

Lignier Roche Label
Tim Atkin MW:
The Clos de la Roche bottling is generally richer and broader than the Clos St Denis at this domaine and that's the case here. Sourced from four parcels in Chabiots, Fremières, Mochamps and Clos de la Roche itself, it's another brilliant red from Benoît Stehly. Mocha oak, dark berry fruit, fine-grained tannins and a core of refreshing acidity. First class winemaking. 2025-35. 96 Points

Stephen Tanzer: Healthy bright red. Darker on the nose than the Clos Saint-Denis, even a bit brooding, but still with superb lift to the aromas of black cherry, licorice, clove, rose petal and black pepper. Then very backward in the mouth, but already displays superb cut to the intense raspberry and pepper flavors. The wine's firm tannic spine will require serious patience. Stehly uses a different mix of barrels to accentuate the differences between this wine and his Clos Saint-Denis: the Clos de la Roche is aged entirely in Cadus barrels with three origins of wood, while Stehly uses barrels from Cadus, Berthomieux and Val de Loire for the Clos Saint-Denis. 92-95 Points

Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2015
Normal Price $545.00
Pre Arrival Price $463.00

Lignier Bonnes-Mares LabelTim Atkin MW:
Planted in the 1930s, this 0.22-hectare parcel is located in the Chambolle side of the Grand Cru on red soils. Whole bunch spice, some ferrous, bloody grip, subtle, almost diaphanous berry fruit and deftly handled oak: this is a brilliant red that will only improve with age. 2025-35. 96 Points

Stephen Tanzer: Moderately saturated bright red. Deep, brooding aromas of raspberry, spices, white pepper and fresh herbs are wonderfully cool for the year. At once penetrating and weightless on the palate, displaying a very firm spine to the flavors of medicinal red cherry, raspberry, menthol, minerals and crushed stone. Darker and stricter than the 2014 version, this classically dry wine finishes with firm, slightly edgy tannins and excellent grip. 92-94 Points

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Combottes 2015
Normal Price $252.50
Special Pre Arrival Price $182.95 (Save 27%)

Lignier Combottes Label 96 Tim Atkin MW:
A Premier Cru that's "a bit more than a Premier Cru," according to Benoit Stehly, this is tucked between two Grands Crus yet is something of a below-the-radar wine. Smoky and intense, with lovely precision and focus supported by textured tannins and lingering acidity.
94 Points

Stephen Tanzer: Healthy medium red. Captivating perfume of cranberry, raspberry, red cherry, clove, nutmeg and white pepper. Juicy and penetrating but utterly seamless too, conveying terrific intensity without any impression of weight. Offers a lovely combination of mineral cut and supple balancing flesh and refinement. This beauty is a splendid example of its vineyard and offers outstanding potential. 91-93 Points

Lignier Georges Ormes Label Tim Atkin MW:
Benoît Stehly's two hectares of old vines are divided into three parts, producing a fine, subtle, beautifully defined Pinot with the graceful fruit sweetness and delicate oak that are the hallmark of the domaine's style. The acidity drives the finish of this impressive Premier Cru. 2022-30.

Lignier Griotte
The Rare Hubert Lignier - Domaine des Chezeaux - Experimental Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru 2014
2 bottles available
Domaine des Chezeaux are the largest owners of the Grand Cru Griotte-Chambertin. As you know their parcel is farmed en metayage by Ponsot with one third of the wine returned to Chezeaux and released under their own label.
However, in 2014, a small quantity of grapes were taken from Griotte-Chambertin and supplied to Domaine Hubert Lignier to vinify. Perhaps Chezeaux had an inkling of what was to occur at Domaine Ponsot or with such a big holding they were looking for interesting/better/alternative options.
Just one barrel was produced by Hubert Lignier. As the importer of Domaine des Chezeaux we have been granted 6 bottles of this experimental Griotte-Chambertin from 2014. I was going to keep them all but have decided I will keep 2 bottles and make 4 available to clients.
The wine is not inexpensive but it is very rare. I am told from vintage 2015 the wine will be commercialized and I will have a better allocation. However, for the moment the 2014 is a first-off experimental wine and something that almost never occurs in Burgundy.

The wine is not on our website. To order contact Asaf on (03) 9326 5737.
