Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Malconsorts

Malconsorts Header
Vosne-Romanee's most powerful Premier Cru and always one of our most popular wines...
Les Malconsorts is an exceptional 1er Cru. Being located alongside La Tache and less than 400 metres from Romanee-Conti it comes as no surprise. Albert Bichot own a substantial 1.76 ha portion with a vine age of around 40 years. Jasper Morris MW says "Aux Malconsorts was first taken out of scrubland and planted with vines in 1610, relatively late for this part of the Cote. Nonetheless it is an exceptional vineyard, one of my three favourite premier crus along with Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses and Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St-Jacques."
It is one of our best selling vineyards every year.
We have five different wines available. Some are in stock, others are yet to arrive from France. You can save 15% on all wines.

Bichot Malconsorts Decanter: Shy nose, with a modest but inviting spic
e - the first word that comes to mind is luxury. Then there's mo
uthwatering fruit, understated tannins and modestly vanilla-inflected barrel flavours. On the finish the tannin adds a salt-tinged texture but paired with beautiful complexity of fruit. Another lovely wine to wait patiently for. 95 Points

Tim Atkin MW: Bichot's holdings in this stellar Vosne Premier Cru are substantial at 1.75 hectares. And this wine doesn't suffer by comparison with those from its illustrious neighbouring producers. Sap, concentration, dense tannins and thick, smoky flavours: this is a wine that needs bottle age. 94 Points

Frantin Malconsorts Label Decanter World Wine Awards 2016:
Delicate and intricate red fruit nose with subtle spice, floral notes and underlying earthiness and cedar oak. The palate is rich and concentrated with dark fruits and pronounced tannins but also extremely elegant. A wonderfully structured wine. 94 Points

Wine Advocate - Neal Martin: The 2014 Vosne Romanée 1Er Cru les Malconsorts has an elegant, refined bouquet with mineral-tinged red berry fruit, composed and a little backward but nicely focused. There is class here. The palate is supple on the entry with fine tannin, silky smooth in texture, very harmonious and nicely structured on the finish. This is a subtle Malconsorts, one that should not be underestimated92-94 Points
Tim Atkin MW: Bichot owns 1.75 out of a total of 6 hectares of Les Malconsorts, with parcels in both the high and low parts of the Premier Cru. Chewy, dense and quite backward, this has a hint of reduction in barrel, but should flourish in bottle. Textured, sweet and smoky with lots of dark, brooding fruit sweetness.

Note this is our special Selection Exclusive barrel. In my opinion superior to the regular cuvee. Notes and awards are for the regular cuvee.

Gold Medal and Trophy for the Best Vosne-Romanee at the International Wine Challenge 2017.
Gold Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2017.

Decanter World Wine Awards:
Coffee, chocolate and cedar spice aromas unfurl onto an elegant, silky texture in the mouth, bolstered by sweet spice, fine tannins and bright acidity. A superb wine with a well-defined structure and glorious future. 96 Points and Gold Medal

Darren Harris: I tasted the wine a month ago (late November 2016) whilst in Burgundy. Red-black in colour, deep and rich to the eye. A little closed on the nose at first (as Malconsorts often is in its youth). Then black fruits with a symphony of spice. Minerals. Violets. Very structured, long. Powerful with soaring fruit and fine, chewy tannins. This is going to be a great Malconsorts - I believe the finest vintage since we started importing the wine in the 2009 vintage.

Remoriquet Malconsorts LabelJancis Robinson:
Aromatic and spicy on the nose but there's also a lifted and fragrant red fruitedness. Juicy and elegant and incredibly persistent. Very finely structured but not in the least insubstantial. Delicious. (Drink between 2017-2025).

Le Moine Malconsorts label 96 Burghound: This too finished its malo late and was quite reduced aromatically but the sturdy and powerful big-bodied flavors are also impressively scaled with serious size, weight and richness with the robust character of a classic Malconsorts yet this remains harmonious, long and beautifully balanced. A real stunner of a wine. (Drink starting 2017). 92-95 Points

Three Interesting Bottles
Seguin-manuel Beaune Cent Vignes label
Seguin-Manuel Beaune 1er Cru Cent Vignes 2015
20 bottles available

Wine Advocate - Neal Martin:
The 2015 Beaune 1er Cru Les Cents Vignes, under Domaine Seguin Manuel, offers attractive brambly red berry fruit on the nose with a subtle damp undergrowth scent developing. The palate is crisp with fine tannin, a touch of blackcurrant tincturing the tart red cherry fruit with impressive focus and poise on the finish. Excellent. 90-92 Points
Darren Harris: Very expressive nose of ripe red fruits, most enticing. The palate has the same generous and delicious fruit with minerals and earth in the backgound. This is quite plush in a delicious way - the Beaune tannins covered with silky, juicy fruit with sprightly acid playing the supporting role. Drinking beautifully now but with all the substance to develop further over 5-10 years.

Vinous, Stephen Tanzer:
Medium red. Musky aromas of maraschino cherry, red licorice and spices. Then sweet and stylish on the palate, offering a seamless texture and a touch of salinity to its lush red fruit flavors. Finishes with substantial but even tannins and very good salty persistence. I like this. (Drink between 2020-2029). 91 Points

Felettig Vosne Label
Domaine Gilbert et Christine Felettig Vosne-Romanee 2014
7 bottles available
John Gilman, A View from the Cellar: The 2014 Vosne-Romanée AC from Domaine Gilbert et Christine Felettig is another very strong villages this year, with excellent purity and nascent complexity. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a blend of raspberries, cherries, cocoa, a fine base of minerality, woodsmoke and new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and complex, with fine depth of sappy fruit, excellent transparency and a long, tangy and ripely tannic finish. Fine juice. 2022-2050. 91 Points
