"This is a magnificent Chambertin." Neal Martin - the Wine Advocate
"The king of wines and the wine of kings." Chambertin is one of the great vineyards of Burgundy. As such it commands top dollar. Most Chambertin today is priced well north of $500.00 a bottle, a lot of it closer to $1000.00.

Overnight we purchased some bottles of the 2014 Chambertin from Louis Latour at a simply cracking price. It just goes to show there are still some bargains out there if you hunt for them!

The 2014 vintage has grown in reputation in the bottle. It is a more classic vintage than 2015 with lovely balance and transparency and a real savoury element that makes the wines excellent with food. Wine makers and critics are split between which vintage they prefer.
Today, we offer this wine at a price that is hard to say no to. The normal landed price would be $595.00 a bottle. Today, you may purchase it for just $379.00.
Remember this is Le Chambertin. The big gun of the Gevrey-Chambertin vineyards.

At the end of the 19th century the Latour family acquired 0.81 hectares in the Chambertin Grand Cru appellation, forming a beautiful parcel extending from the top to the bottom of the hillside, closer to Latricières than Clos de Bèze. They took the name of Chambertin "Cuvée Héritiers Latour", as the parcel has been passed down through the generations of Latour family descendants.

Louis Latour Chambertin Label
Wine Advocate - Neal Martin: Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Chambertin Grand Cru from Louis Latour is the wine that decided to mock my previous judgment more than any other. It has a very intense bouquet with vibrant red and black fruit struck through minerals. This has breeding and authority-très grand cru, although there is a touch of oxidation that becomes more noticeable with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, quite muscular on the entry with a keen thread of acidity, superb structure and real depth toward the kingly finish. This is a magnificent Chambertin. Can we have more of this from Louis Latour, please. Tasted September 2017

Wine Enthusiast:
Powerful and complex, this dark wine comes from vines at the heart of appellation, rich and dense. It offers the potential of great fruit, rich acidity and considerable structure, and will develop giving richness and long aging. Drink from 2023. 95 Points
Wine Chronicles - Panos Kakaviatos:
Gorgeous depth and judicious extraction of tannin, I immediately fell in love with this wine. Dark ripe cherry and licorice, with some spice, oak driven notes. The palate is powerful, full bodied, great depth, with evident tannin, but ripe and polished leading to a very long finish. Excellent! 94 Points

Domaine Fougeray de Beauclair Winemaker Dinner
Tonight
2 Seats Left

Domaine Fougeray de Beauclair winemaker Laurence Ollivier (nee Fougeray) will be in Melbourne this Friday as part of a whirlwind southern hemisphere tour. Laurence works with her husband Patrice Ollivier to produce a range of wines from some very interesting vineyards in the Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits.

The Domaine has airfreighted a selection of wines for a dinner. For any Burgundy lover this is a great opportunity to not only explore the domaine but to see wines from a number of vintages not yet available in Australia. We will serve some fascinating wines including the 2017 Bourgogne Blanc Cuvee Vin Orange 2017 (yes 2017), four 2016 whites plus the Bourgogne Rouge Couer de Femme 2016 (Laurence's special project). We will finish up with a range of 2015 reds including Fixin Clos Marion Monopole and the mighty Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru. This Bonnes-Mares is particularly interesting as it is the only wine bottled from the small parcel of this Grand Cru within Morey-St-Denis.

Date: Friday 3 November 2017
Time: 7pm
Venue: Noir, 175 Swan Street, Richmond 3121
Cost: $100.00
